This morning whilst out with dog saw what seems like an abandoned car with no tax disc. It has foreign plates lithunaian i believe.

I spoke to police who told me as foreign plates they would not be able to trace owner i asked dvla should have info was told cars with foreign plates are not on dvka database.

I find it bizarre that this is the case.

This is not an anti foreigner or anti europe post. This loophole to me seems to be needing to be looked at.

So if I can aquire a left hand drive car with foreign plates, I could drive it around with no road tax, and as long as I don't get stopped I'd get away with it?

I think you're only allowed for a certain period of time before it has to be registered for UK road use. Not 100% sure if I'm correct though...

If you are a visitor to the UK you can bring your car and drive for up to 6 months in any 12 month period provided you are not a UK resident and don't plan to live here. The vehicle must be registered and taxed in your home country.

There are reciprocal arrangements for UK residents visiting foreign lands, country dependant.
