North West. Sometimes London/Cambridge

I can second the Brecon Beacons as being a gorgeous place to hike and pitch

Been 'aggressive camping' in Brecon and it's lovely. The Welsh aren't too bad either 😂

Was in the Brecons this weekend. Sadly now the A470 is just like a giant car park with cars parked all over. Still a stunning place

Kielder is a designated dark site , be quick though as the Milky Way season is coming to an end soon as the days get longer, probably the next two new moons and then it’s done

In the west.

You could try the Galloway Forest park in Dumfries and Galloway, it’s a fairly remote part of south west Scotland and not too busy.

brumish

Well worth checking pitchup for sites around both you can walk from, some nice spots and less likely to fall foul of rules or piss anyone off

So is Brecon from what I read. It says that August is also a very good month for seeing the milky way, just at different times of the day.

I'll have a look at that one as well. Similar distance to Kielder for me

I love the Yorkshire dales. Go camping there every summer. Hoping to do some wild camping up by Blackwater Dam (Scotland) this year though 👌🏻

Late August and September should be okay as well if it’s new moon. June and July the sky doesn’t get dark enough.

I tend to go somewhere close, even if it’s not a dark site because of all the other factors, timing, moon phase, and the hardest one cloud cover, you can use Clear Outside to get pretty accurate forecast in the next 12 hours. If you are lucky and everything comes together, make sure to put your phone in Red mode.. good luck

It would be first week of August which said is the best time for it after first full moon. Thank you, I'll check it out closer to the date, the clouds is what I'm most worried about since this country is almost always cloudy

Doncaster

Been on the Brecon Beacons many a time, normally with a big pack and rifle and always seemed to be raining.

I saw the Kielder dam being built. Before there was any water.
