Flowers used to carry meaning. Like Red Roses for love, yellow for jealousy etc. Daisies for innocence n stuff.....

Stems from the Gods of beauty and love etc and from patriarchy where men wooed women and women didn't woo men but were supposed to be chaste.

I have as a thank you on a occasion.

And romantically by a partner once - It was a very touching and sweet feeling actually. I was quite surprised my self. My knickers were well and truly off, they were already to be fair, I think that's what made it sweeter - that it wasn't necessary.

While I was on operational deployment during my national service, wife send me a massive bouquet of flowers and chocolates on Valentine's Day; delivered to reception at the main HQ. All the military and civilian women in HQ came to look at it, and I was called to come and collect my delivery. They were all quite jealous, and my soldiers delighted in taking the mick out of the lieutenant for the rest of the day.
