Do you sometimes just prefer doing absolutely nada ? Chilling, idling, lazing around, I love it all.

What's your favourite way to do nothing?

chucking on an old movie I've seen a hundred times.

planned an early night last night and channel hopping, ended up watching both Apocalypse Now, then Goodfellas, and went to bed in the early hours of this morning! 😖

Love a bit of me time… in the summer that includes camping. Love getting out and stripping everything back to basics for a few days 👌🏻

Most of the time i do nothing, because i'm not able to do much at all. I do enjoy sewing though so i'm sort of doing something then ... but only just.

I take it further by just sitting there staring into oblivion. Nothing playing to watch, no music, just Nothing, sitting in silence, pondering, reflecting.

Sometimes when I go out, I'll buy a coffee, and just sit there watching the world around me with my phone tucked away in my pocket.

When you can just sit quietly, observe, not letting anything distract you, you will see the world in a different light, and witness things most people are completely oblivious to.

I'm not very good at doing nothing. Due to a long term illness, I have found a way to accept doing nothing.

So sofa, blanket, films. Few snacks.

Do you find it harder to turn off mentally or physically?

It's rare where we get the chance to do absolutely nothing, only when we've gone away for a weekend or holiday. We then enjoy sitting relaxing with a glass of red. Need that so much right now!

I guess it depends on what you mean by doing nothing, as "nothing" is both highly subjective and objective.

.

I could (and often do) spend a whole day on YT, following a particular subject that sparks my interest. I consider that learning. A day spent learning something new is never a day wasted.

.

Or I could spend a day zooming around Google Earth, studying maps and places all over the world. Flipping in to streetview when I want to see more. More learning.

.

Or I could lay on the bed and meditate for a few hours. Or sleep. Both are worthwhile.

.

I don't think I can think of an activity in which nothing isn't something, in some shape or form.

Derren brown has a great podcast on this "the importance of being idle"

More people need to take time out to do absolutely nothing

Give it a listen!

It is impossible to do nothing, as you are always doing something.

But the lazy days I miss before the kids, wake up, don’t even bother getting dressed, doors locked, curtains closed, and proceed to be a fat disgusting slob.

Then regret it the next morning when I have to tidy up after my disgusting self.

I think doing nothing is vital. On public transport I like to just look out if the window and think about everything and sometimes in the summer it's good to just sit in the sun, shut your eyes and let your mind wander.

I feel the same way about children and boredom, don't keep entertaining them when they say they're bored, let them think about things, work stuff out in their brain, contemplate life.

That's the thing isn't it. We're often told one way or another that we shouldn't just do nothing. I've never heard anyone come up with a valid reason why.

I can very rarely do absolutely nothing.

There's always laundry, dishes, cooking, babysitting or hospital appointments to go to.

Even on my worst pain and exhaustion days I can't mentally rest.

I tend to stare out of the window at the sky to try to clear my thoughts.

Today I'm staring at the cherry blossom that's flowering outside my window.
