Officially Spring has Sprung today and looks like we've got the weather to match🌞

What plans do you have for your garden, allotment, containers, window box, whatever?

Time to get digging, planting and spreading your seed.

Love me a bit of spring gardening.

I spent all of yesterday in the garden clearing my flower beds, planting some late flowering bulbs, pulling up (some of the) wild garlic and wild mint and having a general tidy around.

I also potted up lots of plantlets from my house plants for a fair on Saturday 🪴

Happy Spring everyone 🌱

My Hydrangea’s are all budding. I’ve given everything a good feed. Waiting until Easter to cut the grass and give a general spruce up ready for the warmer weather. I’ll be repotting some of my plants into bigger pots shortly and moving my plants about into their Summer locations. They’re all in a sheltered position at the moment.

It’s the First Winter I’ve made it through and haven’t killed anything off 💪

I've been sheepishly trying to sort out my very neglected garden over the last couple of weeks. It's not a good advert for my profession

Pruning, lifting and dividing, a bit of a border re-jig.

Going to the allotment late this afternoon after schools out and sowing lots of marigold seeds amongst the daffodils, garlic and onions which are doing great.

And then Sunday when I've got my older child with me to do all the heavy stuff we will sow cucumbers, sugar snaps, sprouts, butternut squash and we're going to attempt watermelon too.

It's busy time

I'm off to my allotment today. Planting onions sets, new raspberry canes and digging trenches for potatoes.

Do you sow those seeds direct into ground or do you have a cold frame ?

I'm sure he will ! Butternut squash are tricky, they have a long growing time but absolutely hate the cold so can't get them out uncovered too early.🤞

Plus the annual jet wash of the patio which is fun for the first hour as I do my Star Wars impressions and then get demotivated when I see how much I still have to do 🤦🏻‍♂️

In the west.

I’ve been in the garden every afternoon this week, it is bloomin cold in the mornings just now. I’ve mostly been cleaning up after the winter, oiling the deck and painting the hut.

I’m not sure about cutting the grass as it was frosty this morning and could be for a couple of weeks yet.

I’ll be pruning and shaping bushes over the next week or so, declutterring the winter assortment of flowers and accompanying s that will likely begin to sprout, then treating the lawn.

Tomato blight is a horror 😱. I only grow mine in a greenhouse where I refresh soil every year and they're protected from wind that spreads the blight.

Spring Equinox ~ Today, those of us in the northern hemisphere will be welcoming in the Spring Equinox!

For many of us, the transition from winter to spring brings a sense of joy, as we start to see the new shoots and buds appear in nature all around us; we welcome back the birds and butterflies and the creatures that are coming out of hibernation.

As human beings, we are also coming out of our own form of hibernation…we use the winter months to find stillness and time for contemplation and rest. But now, as we welcome the transition to spring, our natural instinct is to feel our energy rise as we transition from the cooling moon energies of the yin season, to the warming yang energies that come from the sun.

At the spring equinox, the sun and moon and the length of night and day are in perfect balance. Over the coming weeks, we are entering the most fertile period of the year…the growing season. There is a short lived period of this fertile energy, so now is the perfect time to turn our focus outwards and put our energy into planting the seeds and ideas for the projects and dreams we wish to nurture and see manifest this season.

Spend time out in nature and really align with the energy of this fertile growing season, as this will help you grow and manifest the dreams that are closest to your heart.

Happy Spring Equinox to you all

Coffee grounds, sunken pots of beer and copper tape are all supposed to dissuade slugs from eating you plants. I’ve just started with the beer and copper tape but the coffee grounds worked last year.

If the copper tape works I’m going to try stripped down electrical cable as it will be more permanent.

That's what I thought, you plant marigolds so the slugs go for them rather than your veg. Although last year most things got ate by the caterpillars
