In Latin America we have a penchant for drama and suffering, as is well documented on telenovelas… so two Japanese anime series were DA BOMB in the 80s:

1) Candy Candy

2) Nobody’s boy: Remi

Man. Neither understood the assignment that cartoons are meant to be for FUN and enjoyment, but they were utterly addictive. So many Gen-Xers were scarred by them. Though Candy Candy is making a comeback with Gen-Zers and baby Alphas!

I have a soft spot for Superted, mostly because in 1989 my mate got me a job with Cartoon Cymru as a cell painter. We'd stay up for 24 hrs a time at home, pushing paint round stenciled acetate sheets fastened to a lightbox. it was piece work and we were making unbelievable amounts of money.

Danger Mouse. That was very well written.

Now, it's Shaun the Sheep. That's wasted on youngsters

"Peanuts. I loved the Christmas film.

That’s an extraordinary film; one about Christmas where the lead character is depressed. Linus’ reading from the bible, with just a touch of echo, is amazing."

I love the ice skating scene.

I get a pang of nostalgia when I watch it.
