nope, round the local park listening to a pod cast that tells you when to run and when to walk etc

And when to jump over dog poo hopefully....

I hope you get better, put an ice pack on and put your feet up to reduce any swelling and watch 'Chariots of Fire' or something.

oh....sorry for the confusion, i havent run 4.5k. i would be dead if i did!

its a programme of staged interval runs. this week yo walk or 5 mins to warm up then alternate 60 secs of running and 90 secs of walking 6 times and then another 5 min walk to warm down.

doesnt sound so impressive now does it

yes it does - interval training is the best way to burn calories and build up your fitness - it's a sensible way to start. Z

.

Don't knock yourself down!

It is a significant achievement for YOU, so you should be proud of yourself!!!

For my first outing on the bike this year, I did 1.5miles on a dirt track in half an hour.

My boss and colleagues took the piss when I told them.

Was I bothered? Not a bit, as I knew I did well for my limited abilities, and that's what matters!

Hey sexy well done. Its a great start. Soon we can go running together. When I first started I could barely run, as it didn't motivate me. But now I can do longer distances, and you'll be able to too.

I couldn't run to the end of my street without keeling over a few years back. I did couch to 5k and then up to 10k!! Took a while but the first time you do it the sense of achievement is amazing!!

I'm horribly unfit again now and would love to get back into it again. X

I’ve just finished the programme and was really surprised how effective it was. Running for even 10 minutes at a time seemed pretty unlikely when I started, but here I am. I’d recommend it to anybody.

"Running is bad for your legs "

That’s just an old wive’s tale. It is actually good for your legs (make sure you buy the correct running shoes for your physique, running style, distance, terrain, etc.)

And runners tend to live about 3yrs longer than non-runners too

It is if you go straight in without building up. It's proven to strengthen bones and ligaments from what I read.

Wiltshire and London

An old football injury means impact sports have been ruled out for me - football, cricket etc. The upside is that I can’t run at any great speed for any length of time, and why else would you want to run?

However, cycling is very much in, and it’s a darn sight more fun!

Just take it steady and if you can't manage jogging then turn it into a fast walk, as long as your heart is pounding and it doesn't hurt then that's a step in the right direction good luck and enjoy

I've just started this programme this week but I have changed it a little as I get a sore kneee when trying to run.

I do the walk with my bike, jog for a minute then cycle for a couple of mins etc. I find cycling easier on the knee. I ended up doing 25 mins exercise today in one session.

I am lucky that I have an area nearby where it is possible to cycle and jog away from traffic.
