Someone I've known for a while had on multiple times sworn he was single. (Didn't actually believe him but that's not the point)

You sure you caught him out and he wasn't just out with a date and was a bit put back or nervous. I've been in that situation before where you're walking around happy as, then next you bump into someone and there's 20 questions who someone is and how you know them. It's difficult to explain.

Be honest and upfront, then others can choose to meet you or not, armed with all the facts.

It's a shitty thing to do, lying and tricking others into meeting you when they believe you're single.
