From the land of haribos.

Before I ask the question I will set the scene, yesterday I watch the maid in manhattan with jennifer lopez, it was really good, have you seen it? I shed some tears.

Jennifer is playing is a single mother from new york city who works as a cleaner in a luxurious manhattan hotel and christopher marshall is a young politician running for senator, he mistakes her for one of the hotel guests.

They both fancy eachother but she is hiding where she comes from because she dont want him to know about it because she is afraid if he would find out he wouldnt want to be with her.

In the end of the movie she finds out that no matter where she come from he wanted to be with her all this time even though they live totally different lives, they later got together to live together.

I like the take home message here and that is that no matter ones background rich or poor you can be together, love knows no boundaries.

That got me thinking, what is your view of it, does it matter where one come from and their background, would it matter to you?

It wouldnt matter to me, love knows no boundaries

Carlisle usually

I'd be too put out by the lies.

I don't give a shit what someone's background is, the person they are is what matters.

And honesty is something I value highly 💜

Your feelings about what others might want ,like or dislike are just that. Your feelings. You could be completely wrong

I think background is important to compatibility. Coming from very different walks of life can cause big problems in a relationship due to lack of understanding and knowledge. Of course that can be worked through but it needs to be acknowledged.

I think it’s a bit simplistic. Whilst those relationships can and do happen, they can be incredibly hard at the start.

Judgemental family/friends butting in.

Logistics

And one person is usually doing the heavy lifting in the relationship financially, which may lead to resentment down the line.

There’s a lot of hurdles to overcome to make it work.

Agreed. Life isn't a rom com.

Différences in culture, finance, religion, education etc can all cause difficulties.

The family and friends thing is pretty important. It's tough to fully integrate into each other's lives if those around you can't identify with/welcome the new partner.

Wish it was simple

Just the idea is amazing and surely it shouldn’t matter but unfortunately there are many things that complicate two people being together

We have to respect it

"Jennifer Lopez could work in a Grimsby fish factory and I still would."

I can see it now, you walking through the factory, nose peg on, seeking out your hot maiden, pausing to vomit in a waste bin, before spying her, lifting her in a fireman’s hold and running out the factory to fresh air. 👏 Go Leo 🏃

My late partner and I came from completely different walks of life, you would never have put us together but it worked for us. We both taught each other things

I'm all for equality but relationships aren't easy and just built on attraction. I've not seen the film and wonder whether it's the equivalent of an adult Disney fairytale.

I'm available for marriage to the right fit man, subject to other considerations. Must be self-supporting

I think in reality it's quite complex, but coming from a very working class background I have found a lack of compatibility in the dating world at times with some people who come from more privileged backgrounds. We just don't have many of the same values or life experience, and that stuff is important to me.

I've had stuck up people from dating apps make disparaging comments about the part of Manchester I'm from and where my family still live, without knowing that was where I was from 😅 that never ends well.

Obviously you can find decent people in any walk of life but there are some key things that we need to be aligned on.

It can be a complex situation but I’d like to think if it was true love then it can be worked out, I’m an old romantic at heart and also loved the film.

I liked that film too!

I think background isn’t important if you share the same values, but for a lot of people their background determines their values and so makes them incompatible.
