I don't often do it.

And I think that's more because everyone has gotten out of the habit of doing it. I'm fairly chatty though. I do like talking. Prefer that to be in person. But if that can't happen I usually won't call them. But might send podcast length voice notes to them

Depends who it is. Could chat the back legs off a donkey if it’s someone I want to speak to. Otherwise messages are my preferred mode of contact.

I hate talking on the phone and prefer texting. I don't mind voice notes though, the fact you can delete it before sending if you say something daft helps.

And video calling is a complete no go ❌️❌️❌️

Me for the most part but, I've only ever sent voice notes to one person. The amount of people who say not to listen back to it... Yet, I can't not. I need to know how ridiculous I just sounded. Why? I'll never know! 😅

I talk to my dad for 30/40 minutes every day on the phone and our daughter a couple of times a week for a similar time. Apart from that I avoid it if I possibly can I don't really like it.

I dislike it intensely, especially as it's generally inconvenient!

Messaging is so much better, you send when you have a moment, then read the response in your own time also.

(obviously impatient messengers ruin this...)

I like phone calls.

Sometimes you can say in a quick call what can take ages to text back and forward

Plus with a call you can hear the emotion in the tone whereas in a text it can be hard to work out

Lastly a call for me means you have time for someone whereas a message can literally be done at anytime

I'm not a fan of long phone conversations, if I can't see the person, I can't fully engage with them. I have to tell my friends to keep phone calls under 15 minutes, anything longer than that, assume I'm not listening.

I have a long conversations with an old friend I used to be in a band with ( this was back when we were teenagers).

About once every 2 months we have a long chat.

Bluetooth headphones mean I can tidy up the house while he's perhaps hiking on a moorland somewhere...so we can be doing totally separate things, but chat for an hour or 2.

It's rare though for me to go this long with anyone else. You've got to be kindred spirits for sure.

Quite ironic given I used to hide as a teenager whenever the phone bill landed at the back of the door. "YOU! DOWN HERE.... NOW!!!"

"Do you?"

I'll answer from a Fab perspective: Yes.

If things are progressing marvellously between myself and the other person on Fab, Telegram and/or WhatsApp then I quite enjoy the "chatting on the telephone" phase. It's a different experience to just chatting to others in my everyday life, which I find mundane.

But the pre-meet telephone conversations are exhilarating and exciting, and often leave me giddy and brimming from ear to ear.

One of my favourite books is just one long phone conversation between two people. A man and a woman, dialling in to one of those old sex chat phone lines, and eventually taking their call ‘offline’ to a normal phone call. An entire novel of two people getting each other off with just chat.

I use the telephone when I have something specific to say, I don’t ring ‘for a chat’, I use the text message function in the same fashion, in general, communication has to have a purpose, or it doesn’t happen.

I’m a bit the same in person aswell though, I can’t just chat for the sake of it, well, I can, but I choose not too, you know those conversations where people are telling you shit about themselves, their family, kids etc, I really don’t need to know, and the questions they ask you about similar, they don’t need to know.

Generally though I am a ray of sunshine

"I'm always on the phone with _ot so needy and messaging when we can't be "

And I love it.

We can chat for hours on the phone and then 100 messages before we chat again a few hours later.

We never have nothing to say to each other.

But in person its total bliss.

We can spend hours together and never have an awkward silence.

It just works for us.

I know its not for everyone.
