I am debating whether I get a Microwave or just stick to an Air Fryer and a Stove for heating up food. Any thoughts?

1313 Mockingbird Lane…

Air fryer is better - It can literally bring day old chips back to life.

But Microwave is more versatile

What would you use a microwave for?

We cook frozen vegetables, heat milk and defrost things with ours, we could quite easily manage without it probably

Mainly for warming up precooked meals.

We swear by our air fryer. I swear last year the only thing I didn't use it for was the Christmas turkey.

The roast veg went in there though. And the pigs in blankets.

Conversely when the microwave broke, I didn't replace it for a month.

There are some microwave and air fryer combos.

Or what about a ninja multi cooker, not a microwave but has so many other functions. Pressure cooker, air fryer, plus loads more

Everyone keeps telling me to get an air fryer, but I don’t see the need.

I’ve got a microwave and a slow cooker, along with the hob they cover all I really need.

I use my air fryer way more than my microwave. Only good thing with the microwave is it's easier to heat up liquids/defrost things quickly.

Finedon ,

I find my Microwave ideal for making Scrambled eggs and also porridge.

I rely on my oven for cooking large pizza's and all my cake baking.

My Air Fryer (Best thing since sliced bread) to be far more versatile than I anticpated and is used on a daily basis.

The team also includes Slow Cooker, Steamer and Toaster.

Life in the Kitchen is never boring

If you have room and you can afford both, then I would suggest they each have a role to play in a creative kitchen

I think I must be the last person on Earth to have an air fryer which frankly is amazing for one and two person meals. It’s economic fast and easy to use. I’m surprised that there aren’t more.”TV Chefs “ using them

For reheating a microwave is ideal as quick, easy economic and efficient

So if we have the room and the money both are very useful

I can see in years to come the traditional oven may become a thing of the past

Microwave with convection fan oven function. Also microwave steamer for veg. Air fryers seem smaller and more hassle to use.

I think they will for small households but I can't think of a replacement for an oven that makes batch cooking cakes and pastries quicker and easier.

Can’t think of anything more pointless than owning an air fryer. There isn’t nothing they can do that one of of ovens already can’t.

For the type of cooking we do anyways.

"Any thoughts?"

Put the food in the air fryer, then put the air fryer in the microwave for very fast air fried food.

Aren't you forgetting something? Once the food is in the air fryer and the air fryer is in the microwave, all three could be popped into the oven. These things matter.

It’s a shame that you’re writing them off because you see them trending on social media. I’ve been the main cook for most of my life and in the few months I’ve owned it my air fryer has become my go to, the oven hardly gets a look in.

The only things my oven does that the air fryer can’t is ultra low cooking (I tend to roast meat at about 60c and the air fryer dehydration mode just doesn’t cut it) and larger dishes. Being able to cook individual baked potatoes, or reheating food, without using a large oven is such a money saver.

I’ve also found myself grilling/frying a lot less and instead use the air fryer for it. It produces perfectly grilled chicken breasts with no effort, and I’ve even found an excellent buttermilk chicken recipe that works really well and uses a lot less oil.

I just need to get some baking trays that will fit in it and see how it goes for cakes etc. If you want to get into the science there’s an excellent Chris Young video that explains how they’re better at cooking then a convection oven (and also how to make the perfect chips in them).

Microwaves I find very meh, useful in an office situation but that’s pretty much it.

Basically, yes it is. However it cooks more quickly and uses less power than a conventional oven.

If you watch the video I cited, look for World’s Best Air Fries, you’ll see his explanation about the difference between two, and how important to the cooking process he Is.
