What's the worst gig you've ever been to ..and what made it bad?

Mine was probably the band 'garbage', (I always found their stuff boring and contrived...)it was a rough part of town and the ancient venue didn't have good / clear sound system.

So I didn't stay for all of their set.

-There was an electronic music duo called "the crystal method" that opened for them though, who's music was melodic and catchy.. and reminded me of the prodigy. So I guess it wasn't all bad.

Oh I loved them. Granted it saw them when I was 17 and had a girl crush on Shirley Mason.

I don't think I've ever seen a terrible band. That being said i was at Reading Festival when Daphne & Celeste were there...

That's hilarious lol

Royal courts a weird venue, (it's like your looking down onto the stage..has the feel like it was used to teach anatomy to medical students in medieval times)

..so Holly johnson was bad at miming?..

Titz Towers, North Notts

A terrible comedy gig at a pub that seemed to be doubling as the holding pen for Jeremy Kyle.

The landlord who was bankrolling the gig wrecked it by talking through the acts and at the acts and his regulars all took their lead from him.

All of the acts were playing silence a cunt whackamole, but as soon as they shut one person up, another would then begin.

No one really managed to get any material out.

I LOVED this band as a teen and this was my second (and last) time seeing them live. Absolute shambles of a set. Ville Valo seemed more d*unk than usual (at the time), the sound was terrible, and he kept forgetting lyrics. It was just painful to get through. And they were the headliners!

G&R are famous for rolling out late and pissed, a few years ago I had a tearful phone call from a distressed daughter; she was stuck in Manchester post a G&R gig.

They’d rocked up two hours late, Axel was d*unk/high, he couldn’t stand up let alone sing and one of the crowd bottled him with piss!

Apparently he went berserk and the gig was paused, he stormed off stage, when they came back on, the place was bedlam!

Inside story is the MEN shut them down in the end, G&R paid the fine and vowed never to play Manchester again!

A huge crowd was well up for the rare chance to see the NY legends but after a few minutes it became painfully obvious they were regretting their reuinion and, often prickly at the best of times, Lou Reed had decided he REALLY did not want to be there.

So, U2 aren't getting a good run in this thread!😖 but your comment reminds me of a great joke...

***

U2 performing for a sold-out crowd in Belfast, singer Bono, known for his charity work and world-wide relief efforts, mid concert, dead centre of the stage, steps up to the microphone, and claps his hands. Six seconds later, he claps his hands again.  Another six seconds, Bono yet again claps his hands.

About a minute goes by of Bono clapping his hands every six seconds, then announces, "Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies."

as he begins to clap again, pausing every six seconds between each clap, a voice is heard from the audience with a thick irish brogue saying...........

"Well, stop fekkin clappin then!"

I saw nitin sahwney at the arches in glasgow and it sounded like I was listening to a ghetto blaster at the bottom of a well.

But I've seen him up close at a small venue in manchester and he sounded incredible. Every little nuance in his flamemco/ fingerpicking was audible.

Perhaps there should be an independent body that rates the sound of venues, with tips for improving. A bit like the hygeine ratings of kitchens in restaurants ..

The worst gig was Green Day at Belsonic (Ormeau Park in Belfast). I've seen them 3 times before, in London and they were amazing.

The crowd ruined it, both for the fans and for Green Day.

Green Day were fantastic but a lot of the crowd were too busy getting pissed. At the end of every song, some dickhead shouted "Play Wonderwall" much to the amusement of himself and his entourage.

The show ended when Tre Cool played a song on acoustic guitar, Mike and Billy Joe had already left the stage in dispair. The muted response of the crowd was too much and the show ended there.

Why someone buys tickets for a show they don't want to be at amazes me. Never going to Belsonic again, will definately see Green Day somewhere better...

Camberley occasionally doncaster

Puddle of Mudd in Doncaster. Wes was high/d*unk and couldn't remember any of the songs. Some members of the crowd got on stage and sang for him. The band walked off and left him halfway through the set and the venue turned the sound off.

More recently, King Parrot supporting Pantera. It was just 'make noise, but faster.. no faster still'. They were far from attaining any kind of hook or melody. The only lyric I heard was the word 'cunt' and he kept showing everyone his arsehole - because edgy and shit.

Belsonic isn't for music fans. It's just another festival fir wankers. Did you see green day when they played in Richardsons back in the day to about 200 people?

Unfortunately not.

I'll be avoiding Belsonic. Full of wankers too tight to go to Glasto.

I saw the Pixies at CHSQ, fantastic! But then they just play their set straight through, no matter what the crowd are doing.

Was shocked pixies sits out. Saw them in Queens years ago. "

I had to get VIP tickets to get in, still worth it!

West Wales and Cardiff

The Stereophonics at Morfa Stadium, Swansea in 1999.

I went because my then girlfriend loved them (I was ambivalent at best). It was their first stadium gig and it seemed that every ‘roider in South Wales was there being menacing (I believe the region had the worst stats for steroid abuse).

They, and thousands of others had spent about seven hours necking alocopops in the blazing sun by the time The ‘Phonics came on.

They played that ****ing hideous “As long as we beat the English” ditty and Scott Gibbs’s winning try at Wembley from a few months on the big screen just before.

I was at that game - I went utterly bonkers with excitement when he scored. That stuff at a music event though? Nah, not a fan of flag waving and sh*te partisanship in music. It’s largely beyond borders for me.

Twenty years later I met someone I didn’t know who was at the gig. Just about the first thing she said to me was “you were there too - my god, the amount of ‘roiders there” .

Horrible day.

And yes, that ditty won’t be relevant again for many years, judging by recent events!

Erykah Badu. She was my favourite artist and then rudely left us waiting 3 hours for her to come on stage. Then didn't sing her top hits. Would never see her again.
