I really enjoy a yummy cottage pie, i like baked beans on the side but the other week someone made me one and put the baked beans in it which I wasn't too keen on, but then they also topped the cottage pie potato layer with ready salted crisps never had that before.

But then again I've been known to put Brussel sprouts in my cottage pie if I have them left over from Sunday roast.

What usual ingredients do you add to yours?

London

I'm unimaginative, so I just put the usual ingredients of beef, veg and potato

Mince, carrots, peas go in. Potatoes on top. Grated cheese on top of the potato.

Sorry, what. Baked beans IN your cottage pie. And WHAT on top? This sounds revolting to me.

Used to layer it, baked beans in the bottom then your mince with veg and then mash with loads of cheese on top.

Onions, carrots, garlic and some other herbs and spices, beef stock, sometimes a touch of tomato puree, when that's cooked down usually some garden peas occasionally sweetcorn. Then the mash has usually got butter, cream, wholegrain and dijon mustard and sometimes cheese. I rather the cheese in the mash instead of ontop as I like to fork the top and get it really crispy. Then some pickled beetroot/cabbage and a touch more gravy on the side when it's done.

Oh yes I add this, really perks it up . Also I quite like to add vinegar to it once it's cooked and served up

Christ! I hope you're not planning to add that where the beans went. That's a whole lot of perking

I do 2 versions depending on how I'm feeling. A more traditional one. Then one with bacon in, lots of soy sauce, mustard mash and cheese on top. That version goes with baked beans really well

Beef mince, gaflic, mixed herbs, onions, peas and carrots with fluffy but crispy cooked mash on top. Rich bovril gravy base
