Working from home

My car is in the garage, so I am working from home today.

What small, unnoticed advantages does working from home offer you as employees?

I'll start with being able to put some washing on & hanging it out in between slaving away at the laptop.

I can sleep in longer because no commute.

Cooked meals. A nap on my lunch break. Spend all the time with my pup. A spot of masturbation. I often think I'll go for a run after work when I'm working from home but don't always feel like it after driving home for an hour when in the office.

Aside from the usual; cooking, cleaning, laundry, waiting for deliveries etc. I can binge on all the YouTube content that takes my fancy whenever work goes quiet

The fact that I get to procrastinate without being disturbed by a colleague is the bonus when it comes to home-working. I can also receive my parcels and not have to look for them over the fence when I arrive from work. And of course the laundry gets done and I can shower mid-afternoon.

Lie in, better coffee, minimal work, peruse fab, get to the gym earlier, sit around in pyjamas until mid-day, clean the house, so many befits 🥪

A place where others reside (West Oxfordshire)

Starting work earlier, seeing more of the kids, doing exercise during the day rather than after work, doing some chores, being on Fab

The list goes on!

I work in the public sector and the value of my pay has been wiped by 25% since 2010, while cuts to jobs and services mean I am expected to do a higher workload. I take what little perks I can get.

Coffee all day, get up at 8.45, log on at 9. Manage my own diary, casual Friday every day, unlimited browsing on here, "self-care" breaks whenever I like, no commute, finish dead on 5.

If I'm on a pointless meeting on zoom (which applies to a lot of my meetings) I can also mess about on my phone rather than the time being a complete write-off. That's when I find myself on here - doesn't happen if I don't have meetings!

Not having to commute gives me extra time, so I tend to work an extra hour or so in the evening, so I don't mind taking five minutes out to put some washing in or hoover a room.

The best thing for me is being able to roll out of bed at 7.45 and still be online at 8. Bloody love the laziness of my mornings after years of dragging myself out of bed at 5.30.

No? I’ve found that I get a lot more done at home without office distractions, pointless meetings and having to walk down the road to get my lunch.

In fact, I get most of my work done in about 5-6 hours as opposed to 8-10 hours if I was in the office still.

Numbers show higher productivity, overall, with WFH, but you believe what you like.

Muting myself in meetings and keeping on typing, not having to be interrupted by people around me... I get way more done in less time.

Listen to music, throw the hoover around, make as many drinks as you like just for yourself, snacks, online shopping break, go outside when you want, have as many loo breaks as you want without folk thinking you have IBS.

I am much more productive at home I just do all my work in half the time as I don't have people coming over and bothering me all day as I do in the office.

Well I don't waste an hour a day (and diesel / car wear and tear) on a commute taking up space in the motorway that's better utilised by people who actively need to be on site

I can use my lunch hour to be productive and walk the dog for instance, so some chores etc

I get peace and quiet to work instead of useless middle management peering over my shoulder justifying their wage

I can't think of many benefits to being in the office

I understand some people enjoy the social aspect but I have hobbies to fill that aspect

"Collaboration" is another little buzzword but we all managed very well on teams at the height of the pandemic

I see little to no benefit of in office work

Love the opportunityto multitask when wfh. Wasing, dish washer. But also the time gained by not travelling and using it for the gym.

I’m so over the mandatory working from home.

Sadly they closed our office or I’d pop in once or twice a week.

If I wasn’t so bloody busy it would be great.

I prefer working from home and detest that covid rules have "ended" for this and my company have decided to make 3 days in office mandatory.

It's not like it's a big commute, maybe 40 miles round trip, but it's annoying when I can do 99.999% of my job completely fine at home and I have no use for being in the office. Teams was invented for meetings....

I love being at home as it's just me, I don't get annoyed by coworkers, and I feel I can crack on.

And as you've said, it's so much more useful for doing household chores. Laundry can be done and hung out on a nice day - without having to put it on the night before and hanging it out very first light and hoping it doesn't rain if your're in the office. Washing the pots or hoovering etc in lunch break.

Just means your're not having to come home from a day in the office and then having to start again with a list of chores. They get ticked off through the day.

Will be interesting long term to see affects on mental health from increased wfh. I would guess overall negative from more isolation but not for everyone of course.

I often slip in to a skirt, nylons and heels when working from home…. cos I can!, and just feels nice and comfortable to be able to do. I only wish such attire was more acceptable more widely.

Having been in the office recently I love that at home I can get a cuppa without a dozen people wanting to talk to me en route to the kitchen.

I swear it was taking me half an hour every time I wanted to make a drink!

Working from home can be good for people who are conscientious workers, but so many people use it to skive. At my work place people will go the hairdressers or go shopping but because they have access to their emails on their phones they can send a quick reply and say they are working. Yeah, right.
