Hello,

A bloody lorry has just smashed my drivers side wing mirror. The casing and the glass are both smashed but still attached. I have booked the car in for a repair. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do temporarily to my wing mirror so I can drive the car?

I used no more nails. Mine was only the casing and the mirror didn't crack, it just bounced off so glued it back on as the clips were broke (tip, there's one for outdoor -degree temps, and one for indoor). It might cause more problems if you're replacing it.

You can buy stick on mirror replacements (just the glass bit) from Halfords; providing there something left to stick it onto (which it sounds like there is) this is a reasonably cheap interim solution. You can keep the plastic outer case in place with gaffer tape.

As long as the glass is attached and you can see out of it then you are very likely road legal.

Mine was smashed off a couple of months back in a similar fashion. I covered the pointy/broken bits with ducttape so there were no jagged edges and then just bought a replacement mirror on eBay and fitted it myself - pop off the internal side panelling, unclip the power switches, couple of screws and slot the new one in. Cheap, fast and easy. Back on the road in a day and half.

Buy a stick on mirror as a temporary solution.

Driving without side mirrors even for a short while is really difficult isn't it
