While servicing my CH boiler, the gas engineer pointed out two reasons insurance companies will use to reject a claim if your home suffers a fire.

Incorrect electrical fuse: first port of call for assessors. 5 or 13 amp fuse instead of 3 amp? Instant fail, do not collect cheque - you're on your own.

Live in Scotland and haven't upgraded smoke and heat detector arrangement in your home to meet the 2022 interlinked regulations? You're not fully insured.

From The Salmon Of Doubt: "Time travel? . . . The evidence is all around us. I'm talking about how every time we make an insurance claim we discover that somehow mysteriously the exact thing we're claiming for is now precisely excluded from our policy."

Douglas Adams, he knew.

I'd generally assume that some vaguely worded details would exclude just about everything and it's in their assessment that you would be caught out. Never had a major claim. I'd hate it

"Acts of god….. wtaf. "

A complete and utter shameful cop out. Since when did insurance get the god given right to drag religion into things? No wonder Billy Connolly did that film.

I'm about to put a claim in, hope it gets through - I seem to pay a fortune for House insurance compared to other people
