6 years ago today that she went missing.

Thoughts and prayers to both her and her parents and family that she is somehow or other safe and hopefully one day reunited.

Lord Lucan wasnt a child that wet missing. you will find that lots of people will find any sort of joke or even non support of the family in bad taste on threads about Maddie McCann.

You ca either make the jokes and accept the backlash or keep schtumm really.

Personally i still believe that the parents had something to do with ad never understand why they havent been bought to task about leaving 3 small children alone so they could go out and have fun but hey ho.

The situation is sad and i hope she is ok, maybe a miracle will happen but i doubt it.

O o O oo

I didn't even get the joke of Rovers return so don't know if it is bad taste or not.

I don't think I want to be enlightened but maybe just to get back to the OP.

I can't believe how quick it has gone, but, like I said then, they will have to live with the fact that they thought food and drink was more important than the safety of their children.

thats if what we saw in the news was right, could be a complete cover up!!!

And whats wrong with keeping sleeping toddlers in buggys by the side of you when eating/drinking on holiday. We rented a villa last year and i had to have my toddler near all the adults when asleep in the buggy and not in the bed room! You just never know who coukd be watching.

Zero sympathy for the Mccanns, their neglect, their lies and their "charity" that wasn't registered and was used to pay their mortgage.

I think they were involved. Statistically speaking 80% of malicious child deaths occur due to a family member. So no sympathy from me but sorrow for the loss of an innocent little girl's life.

I honestly think the Mcanns were on a swingers holiday! Hence all the kids tucked up in bed and out of sight of mind in the evenings! So, saying that, i'm being careful what i say about them. After all, didn't they try and sue EVERYONE who had the 'cheek' to accuse them of neglect? Hence, taking the blame from themselves!!

Could have more to do with close family owning and running McCann Erikson who are an international marketing and PR agency and very well connected with national and international media- hence why the story may get more press coverage than similar incidents

Nobody disappears like that without a trace.

They had the world's police force/Interpol and god knows what else looking and nothing?

I just hope she is ok, but she has prob grown up beyond recognition now.

Kids faces change fast.

I've always felt, the truth always comes out in the end at some point.

Always.

Some of the posts here border on the slanderous and libellous side of the law and care needs to be taken when making unfounded accusations.

All it needs is someone to pick up on this and folk could get done. Remember the false accusations made against lord mcalpine.

I am sure there are a number of reasons why you wouldn't worry about your young children waking up in a strange place, getting up and doing whatever......... one of those reasons being - you have doped them to make sure they don't.

If I agree with the comments or not, everyone is entitled to an opinion and to express it. I do not agree with some contributors sentiments, but I acknowledge their right to have some in the truly bizarre and almost unique case.

I cannot myself understand why 2 intelligent people could even dream of leaving 3 small children alone in a holiday room to drink and eat with other holiday makers a significant distance from their children.

I cannot understand why no prosecution for child neglect was brought.

The father is a heart specialist and the mother a GP. I have to say if I had a heart problem and he stood up as I walked into the consulting room I would say : " Sorry I'd like to see another specialist" and if she was my sole GP I's change practices as you have to wonder at their sense of judgement.

Whatever the truth of what happened to that poor child that night, and I am in no position to give a qualified opinion on what happened to Maddy, I find the actions of her parents incomprehensible.

If they were Wayne and Waynetta Slob of 33 Shite street, Shite Estate, shitesville on the dole, they would have been hammered

You just wouldn't leave your kid in hotel alone, never the less in another country regardless of how far you was going. What makes me laugh is if it was a single mother the media would of ripped her apart saying she was out getting wrecked and abandoned her kid. I'm convinced the doctor mother gave that kid something to help her sleep and it went wrong, that's just my opinion but it'll all come out one day

i still believe something untoward was going on that evening with the family im sure i remember hearing blood and hair samples that matched maddy were found in the boot of the family car which was put down to a picnic blanket and a grazed knee supposedly but really i know that if they had been average joe something more would have been made of them being liable for neglect. Having lost a child i dont understand the mums behaviour she was out jogging in the park the day after she came back from there and didnt shed a convincing tear. My world fell apart and i didnt leave the house for a long time different circumstances but still lose of a child

This tragic couple have come under intense scrutiny from not only the Portuguese police but British media.

I'm appalled at some of the comments.

If u go on google u can see an area _iew of map..from distance from apartment to where they went out for dinner. personaly only _iew i have is why as a parent would u do that...not popping next door..actualy a distance away. Services were available for child minders i believe. Would maddy still be here if parents had done things differently??? most people have mentioned this and thats what they find strange and question asked why did this happen??? who does that???

Of course I 'get' that...I'm sure if they hadn't been left alone the outcome would have been different...hindsight is a wonderful thing.

My point is that I would rather go with the police on this whose information is no doubt greater than a bunch of people on an internet forum."

The UK police haven’t said they have found any evidence which absolves them.

"Ive always said, if it was a single mother on a housing estate nipping next door to the pub for a drink and leaving 3 children under 5 would it be treated the same?"

Exactly.

I'm sad at what happened to the poor girl but I'm honestly don't give a monkey's what her parents are going through. Look at what your child is going through because you couldn't be arsed to get a babysitter or cancel. Your children are priority Number One wherever you are.

How this isn't classed as negligence is beyond me.

The thing that grates with me the most is the way that they conducted the media, one of the first things they did when they got back in the UK was employ a media and PR agent, this same agent has since whored the McCann's story around the world's media until they sucked up as much money as they could.

They then used their plight to draw in countless donations, including £100,000 from Richard Branson, and then used these funds to pay their personal mortgage.

I feel so dreadfully sorry for whatever happened to that little girl, but I have not one ounce of sympathy for her parents who could easily afford to have taken a nanny or au pair away with them to look after the children if they so badly wanted to get out without then at night.

Once you have a child, holidays do change and you can't (if you are normal that is) carry on the same as you did before. Like others have said, if they'd have been a rough family from a rough estate they would have been hung drawn and quartered by now. But because they're doctors, eh that makes it OK. Not in my book!!!!!

You can't deny that they were guilty of leaving three young children alone, that in itself should be a crime.

It seems to me that the main thread running through this forum post is that the parents were wilfully neglectful in leaving 3 small children alone, in a holiday resort to drink and eat a considerable distance from said children over a considerable period of time.

Allied to the fact that if the said parents had been unemployed from a sink council estate and not Doctors, then a castigation and prosecution for child neglect would have been a real possibility.

You are of course entitled to your opinion and I welcome it. But I honestly fail to see how the above is NOT proven and how it is slanderous.

so basicaly everyone whos stating and questioning why 2 adults decide to leave 3 kids alone when services were provided for childcare is in the wrong?? erm that will be questioned..i dont have kids but know that isnt right to do! thats what alot of people do not get and understand why...so yes people will question it when its not bloody normal behaviour at all for parents to do! reality is it should not of happend...and people get kids took off them for bloody less if they do not fit into a certain stereo type!!

We will never know what happened to Maddy.. I personally don't think she is alive.. We will never know if the parents played any part in this... However regardless of the parents profession whether they were rich or poor an innocent little child had her whole innocence snatched from her.. I think we need to remember that.. Sometimes these things do come out in the wash and sometimes the truth is uncovered..

"Ive always said, if it was a single mother on a housing estate nipping next door to the pub for a drink and leaving 3 children under 5 would it be treated the same?"

That always bothered me at the time. If we were in a different country and our kid woke up to find us not there, she'd out and out panic! Plus, with children that young, they're at risk of injuring themselves and one another by any number of commonplace means. And yes - it seemed to be the case that because the parents in this case were middle-class professionals, their neglectful actions were not questioned sufficiently. God knows they've paid for their mistake and no-one would wish that loss on them, but working-class parents would have been harshly criticised for the same actions.

Read Gonçalo Amaral's first book about the tragedy, The Truth in The Lie.

He was the policeman who was thrown off the case and whos book was banned by the McCann's from being sold.

Since the ban was lifted he had all his assets frozen and any profit from the book sales to be paid to the McCann's to the sum of 1.2 million euros.

I am not saying what they did was right or wrong.

I remember as a child going to Pontin's holiay camp and we were left in Chalets whilst our parents were out and patrols came round, if a child was crying a call was put out that the parents of a child in chalet no whatever was crying.

This was, and I;m showing me age here 45 years ago. Then it wasn't frowned upon

The theories of what possibly happened with Maddy are follows as I see it :

1) Maddy leaves the room of her own volition and :

a) fatally injures herself, leaving her body undiscovered, or her body discovered and disposed of

b) Maddy is discovered and abducted by an opportunistic predator

c) Maddy is discovered by a more benevolent opportunist and is raised thereafter by them

2) Accidental death

Maddy meets with a self inflicted or 3rd party inflicted accidental death and her body is disposed of. This could occur in the room or outside and away from the room and at any time before the last official external party sighting of Maddy

3) Abduction from the room

Maddy is abducted from the room whilst alone by a predator or by a more benevolent abductor

I do not know enough to make any judgement on which scenario is the more probable, but in my opinion one of these 3 scenarios must have taken place.

And I fail to see any slander in that

It seems from the comments the majority think the parents were irresponsible to say the least!

Who can argue with that?

I can only assume that the lack of evidence of any kind prevents the police from taking action of any kind against the McCanns.

What is know is that the children were left, they don't deny that...I don't know if this is a crime legally, but I sure do think worry if it is that it hasn't been applied to anyone just because they are 'jolly nice people'

There are many things I can't comprehend that are none the less true!

"Has anyone actually grasped the concept of innocent till proven guilty.

"

It means the courts must assume a 'suspect' on trial will not be convicted... innocent is the default setting of the legal system...until someone finds evidence that he/she is guilty.

It does not mean people cannot be suspected... if it did, no one would ever be arrested or questioned.

The Portuguese police suspected the parents and never really ruled them out - they just shelved the investigation.
