Absolutely not. I love having interesting deep conversations/respectful debates with people. I don't want to live in an echo chamber, that would be incredibly boring.

A threat to what? No, certainly not. I enjoy losing a debate, because it means I’ve encountered someone who not only has a different and interesting perspective, they are able to express themselves in persuasive ways, so much so that I have learnt something new.

Perhaps the very worst thing about the world we have built for ourselves is the desire for our opinions and beliefs to be endlessly validated, instead of continuously questioned. I can almost feel my critical faculties dying the more engage with the world. I would take one deep thinker over a lifetime of sheep.

A threat to what?... I think you answered your own question with the last comment "I would take one deep thinker over a lifetime of sheep."

Sheep will follow the group, even if it's walking into danger. That's scary.

Definitely good to have a deep conversation with people, it’s good to learn about them and learn what makes them tick!

If you hit it off it’s much easier to relax and explore!

I think a lot of people have adopted "deep thinker" as an identity and an aesthetic but actually just land up being sheep for "deep thinker" content creators, parroting what they hear and pushing it on others.

Same thing happens in the skeptic community - turns out they're not skeptics at all, they just believe what a different group of people tell them to think.

I’m quite a deep thinker and I’ve certainly been known for being difficult throughout my career, but I am able to control it and adjust to who I’m with.

I’m not sure it’s the sexiest trait though is it? Something quite likeable about people who just go through life being a bit blissfully content & not overthinking.

I am VERY intimidated by them and recognize that my lived experiences and knowledge are often very limited and inadequate and I don't feel worthy to engage... But that's on me for being a thiccie, not them !

I like to be in their presence, but on the perifery of their gaze so that I'm not directly in their headlights, but can listen and learn / align/ be challenged

I don't believe that deep thinkers are feared to be honest. Boring more than likely. Think there is a time and a place for deep conversations, you just need to read the room.

I'd agree to an extent and add Mary Beard but I think their deep thinking is mostly confined to their subject area. Some would say Stephen Fry I suppose.

I think Jeremy Packsman is a deep thinker, no doubt others will disagree. I know it kind of his job to think deeply in order to get people to answer his questions but I think he is probably the kind of person for whom deep thinking is his norm.

Hmm I don't know, Brian Cox obviously knows about the music industry and the arts, whilst Alice Roberts studied medicine before the archaeology. Grayson Perry is a really good example too.

To me those in the public eye who have a genuine enthusiasm for the subject they are presenting suggests deep thought to me. They are taking a subject matter that can be complex and explain it to plebs like me. That requires a deep thought pattern I think.

Absolutely not. Deep thinkers are needed now more than ever when you look at the stage of the geopolitical system at the moment, you have Trumpa amd Vance leading one of the most powerful nations in the world. You need people who can consider the result of actions 3/4 steps down the line.

Yeah, maybe I guess it depends on the type of deep thinking. I think I’m more of a free thinker than a deep thinker actually. Very much the pragmatist activist rather than the theorist / reflector.

I think it’s very unattractive when people have very deep thoughts and dissatisfaction with things but no desire to do anything about it.

Good question. I think there's an element of self interest in both. I think we all have the capacity to think deeply and often if you spend long enough with a person you can tell the areas they think deeply in.

Are they deep thinkers by my definition or theirs? Because there could rather easily be a quite erm... significant gap between the two.

If, and obviously completely hypothetically, there was the aforementioned gap? Still a no. I'd find them really fucking dull though.

I don't feel threatened by deep thinkers but they can be difficult if they aren't capable of any spontaneous thought at all.

Not every conversation requires analysis and I tend to avoid those who feel the need to dissect everything I'm saying in search of a hidden meaning.

An ability to know when to take something at face value seems to be lacking in many people.

The old saying that common sense isn't very common could apply to deep thinkers.

Definitely prefer deep thinkers. A deep thinker is capable of fun light conversation (depending on their personality) a shallow thinking person is almost never capable of considered ideas.

Some people think things I disagree with, some deep thinkers I don't like but I can't say I've ever felt threatened by one.
