Do you miss it? Or perhaps it is Bonanza or the Waltons that you miss. They don't make them like that anymore.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Does anyone remember a German series called, Timm Thaler?

It was about this kid who sold his laugh to this geezer who may have been the devil….I think.

It was great 👍🏻

Well….ok, it was shit but I liked it as a kid at least.

LHOTP books is what started my interest in America and one time thoughts of living there.

Found it strange how Ingalls Wilder's name was taken off a literary award because of some of the language in her books, though it was the language at the times she was writing about.

Monkey.

Scarred the shit out of me as a kid, but awesome nonetheless.

The intro alone was fucking mental; ‘The nature of Monkey was irrepressible’ - followed by the singer literally screaming ‘Mooonnnnnkkkkeeyyyyyy!!’ as the titular protagonist breaks out the egg.

Absolute classic! 👍🏻👍🏻

That’s the one 😃😃👍🏻

I always wondered….why didn’t Timm just bet that he could get his laugh back?

It would have saved him so much time, hardship and needless adventuring - all accompanied by that really out of sync over-dub 🤔

Ahhh Sons and Daughters - that was an Australian classic; as was with the eternally unhappy, Prisoner Cell Block H ….

Best to keep some of these childhood classics as mere fond memories.

A mate got Airwolf, Knight Rider and his personal fave The Dukes of Hazzard boxsets to proudly show his 2 young sons.

They just scowled in "What is this shit???" bewilderment!

We had to agree, they've not aged well sadly.

PS - Intended follow ups of Chips and The Incredible Hulk were hastily shelved!

She wasn't writing about "the language at the times", she was using the language of the times in her own voice, negative portrayals of native Americans and black people.

I'm not saying Wilder should be banned or vilified, I'm saying that authors of 'their times' like Wilder, Enid Blyton, Dr. Seuss & Charles Dickens to name a few should be acknowledged to be racist in their writings, products of their times, yet non white children are taught to hold these writers in high esteem. Just food for thought.

Oh my…my kind of thread, a wonderful meander down memory lane.

I adore a lot of the series of the 70s and early 80s .. my time as a child … all mentioned here, and nostalgically remembered ☺️☺️☺️

The Waltons

LHOTP

White Horses

Double Deckers and Banana splits … I too used to sit building my Airfix models watching them! 🥰🥰🥰

I too loved Chips 🥰.. not got a Kawasaki, but a more modern big bike not dissimilar 😉… watching the reruns … definitely misogynistic and sexist by today’s standards! … but upholding the values of the time!

Others not mentioned … yet!

Belle and Sebastian

The Flashing Blade - awesome theme tune!

Upstairs Downstairs …. never tire of watching these.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

A few comments were posted online saying that a reboot would be very woke.

One of the actresses from the original said they really needed to go back and watch what they did back then as it was one of the most woke shows on TV at the time.

Yeah, say didn't the bionic dog appear in one of the Bionic Woman series? Max I think he was called...????

I know they did a reboot of the Bionic Woman with the english actress bird out of East enders. But it was a flop & they only did a season's worth?
