"Heard this on the news last night.. it was the “and finally…” So….. anyway, in France a man has his wallet sto len… they also use his card to buy a couple of lottery tickets! Anyway… obviously he notices, card gets cancelled ect ect That night… his lotto numbers come in! He wins half a million euros! So … this gent has now put out an appeal to find the thieves, he says he wants to give them half! So what would you do? Keep it all? Give it away? Give them some? Any other answer!" No he didn't win anything. They bought a scratchcard that won and he's offered to share the money if they come forward. It's doubtful that either party has any legal right to the winnings. | |||

"So being in possession of the winning lottery ticket / scratch card is technically "handling stole n goods", but it's also the proceeds of crime. If the thieves claim the winnings, it will all be taken off them. At least, that's what would happen in the UK anyway " A lottery ticket is often an example of a bearer ticket - whoever holds it owns it. At least that’s the case in many countries. All I can think is that they had to verify their identity, couldn't so were required to return the ticket and the person the card was nicked from was contacted. However if the card was stopped and the money refunded to it then the sale of the lottery ticket would be void. So I'm very confused | |||

Again, the same is true in Spain so I'm assuming France could be similar. | |||
