So who on fab is into wild camping?

Love the idea of a weekend in the mountains, walking, camping, swimming in rivers, all with like-minded people open to some filthy conversations around the fire in the evenings.

Any recommendations of good places to camp or visit?

I’ve wild camped in quite a few places all over Wales and also on mountains in the Lakes.

Why stay in a 5 star hotel when you can stay in a place with a thousand stars 😛

I used to a lot on the Lakes and North York Moors. I always did it on my own and was a girl in my 20s so people tended to leave me alone. Now though I'm not sure if restrictions regarding permissions matter more now, perhaps worth looking into, particularly during grouse shooting season or the like. Wild camping might wind people up the wrong way maybe if so.

Yeah I think fires are frowned upon - I’ve never built a fire when wild camping - relied on my stove, hot food and a gin jacket to keep me warm 😋

I have done a bit throughout Wales before. There are a few permissive areas where camping is allowed and there are fire pits that can be used!

I would love to do that the closest I've done is in my slef built campervan for about a week just driving around north Wales stopping in car parks and aires

I try to Wild camp once a month although reality is it happens about six or eight times a year.

We only ever do a single night we go early evening on a Friday do about a 2 to 3 hour walk with head torches camp, cook, drink watch the stars catch the sunrise and then head back to the cars. Sometimes doing naked Wild swim on the way down. Most of the times we don’t sleep I’m just a lie in busy bags and sleeping bags so we can see the stars.

Derwent edge above the reservoir is a good spot, there are some rocks near lost lad that give good protection if the weather is bad.

Or anywhere up on Kinder Scout you’re not gonna bump into anybody once it’s dark you can park at Edale or can also go the other way From snake pass to kinder north edge or the other way onto Bleaklow Moor and there are various RAF crash sites which are nice to wild camp at but sometimes there are other wild campers. There is also a brick shooting lodge near there where Wild campers leave each other gifts and messages that’s quite nice when it’s very snowy and cold. There is usually fuel there to make a fire in the corner. Around Christmas New Year people even leave you alcohol.! The ultimate Wild camp though is the bossy at the summit of Cadair Idris on NYE. The temperature is around -16 normally and it does get so busy, sometimes you have to sleep outside in the snow

I always thought wild camping was illegal in britain. Scotland yes but not england. Or do you call sleeping in laybys as wild camping.

I've done it for years over Exmoor. Plenty of accessible places, tucked away or hike to if you want to. Fires in the dry summer months are very much frowned upon but it's all common sense. There are some beautiful places next to rivers, leave no trace no, problem in my book?

Wild camping is considered illegal - however it’s not really enforced unless people are damaging the area. If a landowner ever asks you to move on, you do so.

I would walk in for miles before I pitched my tent so the likelihood of ever being seen were minimal.

I wouldn’t consider sleeping in a car as wild camping.

Did Red Screes in December and Dulyn Bothy January snow for both . But clear skys through the night a dri k and good company nothing beats it
