A year or so ago I organised a special afternoon tea for someone after consulting gor some of the things on here with you and picking the best suggestions. It was an amazing afternoon tea. Below is a descriprion of it. I am about to repeat the experience in a few weeks time for someone's special mum. Anything you think I should change to make it even better? Thanks.

Top tier:

Portuguese tarts

Fruit tartlets

Mille-feuilles

Chocolate torte

Coconut macaroons

Lemon drizzle cake

Middle tier:

Fat rascals with strawberry jam and clotted cream

Bottom tier:

Smoked salmon and dill

Cream cheese, cucumber and black pepper

Chicken bacon and avocado

Ham and mustard

Roast beef and Horseradish

mini pork pies with cranberry topping

Drink: start with a champagne toast and then earl grey, darjeeling and milk oolong

Sounds amazing but personally I think there's too much choice. At an afternoon tea you want to try one of everything but I think someone's mum might be outfaced by all this. It seems more like a buffet than afternoon tea.

I would lose the pork pie. I think it is hard to make a mini chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich so I would lose that too. I would add the smoked salmon to the cream cheese sandwich.

Maybe add egg mayonnaise instead for a 4th sandwich.

There's something on all of them that I don't like 😞

So when you make one for me, please adapt as below

Egg Mayo

Cream cheese and black pepper

Chicken & bacon

Ham

Roast beef

mini pork pies

In all fairness though MB, it sounds lovely - I'm kinda awkward with a lot of foods
