This is really promising and encouraging shift in gender equality seeing more and more of this in the gym these days.

Keep loading the Olympic ball with a man’s portion of warm-up weight, doing one rep and then dropping it really loudly

Nope. I load with a much heavier than average for a woman and rep it out. Then replace the weights carefully. There's no smashing here.

I took a decent chunk of pride in leaving the ski ropes thingy with a higher strokes per min than the dude next to me who had been doing shorter sprints. And that was my final exercise

If your dropping the weights down hard it's to heavy for you plus over time you'll crack the plates

Dropping the bars is a fairly common in Olympic lifting isn’t it? A lot of the women do that in my gym so the weights get dropped by everyone, frequently.

We'd better tell that to the ego lifting dudes who do just that every week, with ridiculous roaring as they do it.

o o OO o o

I’ve recently got into Kettlebells. I would like to try those bar weight things but gyms are not my happy place.

If it was too heavy and I was struggling then I’m sure I’d throw it out the window never mind at the floor!

It’s the teenagers are bad for it at our gym they all deadlift in a big group for single reps only every single week and literally just let go of the bar, all the bars are eliko brand yet they still managed to fuck a few of them

If it's a decent barbell with proper bumper plates higher than 10kg then if it's under control it doesn't really matter. But don't let that stop your nice little dig under the guise of equality ❤️

Don't drop 5kg bumpers folks! They'll split in no time.

If you're capable of throwing it out the window it probably wasn't too heavy 🙂

I don’t drop them anymore. Controlled lowering all the way.

They’re my bar and plates and I can’t afford to keep replacing them. Fuckin expensive stuff now.

The only size mentioned was the size of the weight plates

...

There are signs up in my gym telling people but to drop weight's!

I was seated on machine a few weeks ago and a new weight lifter (who happened to be female) didn't realize you had to secure the weight's on the bar and carnage ensued. I'm still not sure the guy next to her realized how close he came to being incapacitated

Yes 1 rep deadlifts. They have platforms. Even in non Olympic there’s arguments that you should drop the bar not lower it when deadlifting

Now that doesn’t surprise me at all, There is serious power in those arms. I’ve seen them powering up 45°car park ramps.

Closed grip lat pulldown 1 rep max (with reduced grip strength) was 52kg on Weds. Pleased with that. But back to 45 for reps.

Just to expand this out past the gender, but whenever I see someone dropping the bar on the floor loaded with weight, it pisses me off as it fucks the bar right up. Trying to do deadlifts with a wonky bar is not my idea of fun! 😒

At least they’re making progress! Some programs focus on 1 rep max for strength gains, which can be effective.

It takes a lot to get to the gym and put in the work. People will always find something to complain about when it comes to training, but the key is to focus on your own progress and make gains while spreading positivity.

Sometimes, I do think it would be helpful to have different time slots for men and women to train, just to give women a bit more privacy.

I’ve currently got a 220kg deadlift and once I’ve reached the max number of reps or I feel I can’t get the last one out I put it down straight away. It might make a noise but it’s controlled and out of the way so no one is harmed.

Be positive 😃

If you’ve got bumpers where you’re deadlifting you can drop the bar. I’ve never came across a wonky deadlift bar before 😅

Where I go, they’re oldish bars. But the bar I had yesterday was a first for me! Had to stop and find another one, couldn’t lift it safely!

Bent bars are shit they make gripping a lot harder considering we are far stronger on the eccentric than we are on the concentric there is never any reason to drop the bar outside of Olympic weightlifting which relies a lot on technique to get the bar overhead so the disproportionate lowering strength often doesent apply
