Problem is he is 80+ now.. what can they really do to him?

My question is why did these people not come forward sooner, when he could of been stopped? Now why just have a very old man that is going to either commit suicide or be put in prison for the very last years of his life.

Do this either rehabilitate him, or act as a warning to other not to do this sort of thing ?

Hopefully treat him exactly the same as every other paedophile (which is what he is) and sex offender. Lock him up in a Category A prison.

It really doesn't matter about his age - he's a sex offender.

Totally agree with Ruby....very unlikely he'll be rehabilitated anyway. Few are...monitoring is the only way for some in the community

Just because he's 80 doesn't mean he's still not capable of grooming and abusing

Suppose only the victims can answer that, maybe with the other cases being prominent they felt they may at last be listened to..

there will be others no doubt who have chosen to forget it and 'move on', predatory paedophiles by their nature are prolific offenders..

certainly in the care homes allegations there is evidence other victims took their lives due to what happened..

to not be believed by other adults post abuse must be terrible..

As he's been released on court bail until sentencing in June I doubt he'll end up in a cat A prison and in fact most convicted paedophiles don't either.

I believe he'll be looking at a short prison sentence but his life is now pretty much destroyed.

I quite agree.

Hopefully he'll publicly apologise to his victims.

Just heard a radio report from when he left court.."no comment".

This was in stark contrast to his public denials and determination to fight the charges on a previous court visit.

If you leave it years to report a crime not only do the evidence start disappearing so it gets harder to prove, it also means more could get hurt.

Unfortunately at the times these offences took place, if you were raped or assaulted, it was mainly assumed you'd 'asked for it'. Victims were often treated harder than the perpetrators and therefore you put it to the back of your mind.

Now with all these high profile names coming forward people are now getting the courage to admit this. I am not saying that some are jumping on the so called bandwagon as well.

Unfortunately not every rape or assualt was from a known name and, yes, people still live with it.

It is very hard to come forward if you have been abused. First there is the fear that no one will believe you. You are only a child and they are an adult after all.

Secondly these people are very adapt at making the abused feel that it is somehow there fault and if they did report it they would be seen as the disgusting ones.

Also there is the threats, "if you tell someone I'll kill you , kill them , no one would believe you"

These deviants are very controlling, why do you think so many of them get away for it for so long.

No blame should be put on the victims for not coming forward sooner.

Are you seriously saying that somehow someone who was sexually abused at nine years of age, by such a high profile public figure, should be considered at fault for not coming forward sooner.

It seems obvious the Savile case has encouraged people to come forward.with secrets that must have been difficult to come to terms with. I have know way of knowing, but it's highly probable they never even told their parents, never mind going to the police!!

No.. I am not saying that these people are at fault. It is more that I am very angry that people who have committed these crimes have not been investigated and charged until either they are very old or are dead! How many peoples lives have been changed because these people where able to carry on doing theses evil things!

The saddest fact about the reporting/non-reporting of his crimes is that most of the offences were against the children of people he knew - and most of THEM knew what was going on.

Wonder if they are going to prosecute the parents for aiding and abetting...???

I didn't realise that one of the incidents was kissing a girl on the lips..i didn't realise that was indecent assault, Christ I bet there are a lot of 17 year old lads with younger girlfriend nervous....

I would say put him in jail now.Britain does not prosecute enough people accused of sex crimes.Age does not matter.The victims were probley the same as saville's victims they would have been told no one will believe you as I am a star and you are no one !!!!! Indecent assault covers a lots of things. Some of the charges against him are of him groping the breasts of 16 and 17 year olds.

I think a lot of people are not aware of what counts as indecent assault. Slapping a woman on the ass is counted as indecent assault and could land you in court.

In the eyes of the law, did not matter what age the person commiting the crime was. Kissing a girl under 16 on the lips be you 17 or 67 is counted as indecent assault

I agree ! If you have sex with an girl under the age of 16, be you 13 or 53 you are counted as raping them. The age of the person commiting the offense do not make a difference !

At 17, I would never even have considered kissing a 13 yr old girl on the lips. I would probably have even blanched at kissing one of my female cousins on the cheek when 'ordered' to at a family wedding etc!

I had boys, so was never in the position of worrying what guys a 13 yr old daughter of mine was mixing with, but if I had - and I had found out a 17 yr old male had been even just kissing her - he would have had to be able to out-run a couple of cartridges from my (metaphorical) 12 bore.

Thanks to the work I did in the 90's with a Govt Dept on paedophilia, I would - at the very least - question the motives of what would appear to most to be 'innocent' intimate contact between two teenagers... specially so if one is above the legal age of consent and one still three years away from it...
