We have all seen the ad’s .. rather annoying.. but this is one with a twist!

How much would you ask for in an airline accident?

The people who survived the flip in the delta accident at Toronto have been given a first offer of 30,000 dollars.. delta call it a reasonable no strings attached settlement

I laughed…..

I think I’d be wanting 7 digits to settle out of court ..

So what’s your price?

Tbh if I survived any airline near miss I'd feel I'd won the lottery ! If they got me straight afterwards I'd probably agree to £50 and a few stiff drinks.

No idea how much I'd accept. I do know that their first offer is rarely their final one so I'd probably refuse it. I wouldn't want to get involved in lengthy legal wrangles though, I guess they wouldn't either.

We had a friend (RIP) who was a financial expert who helped sort out some pension issues for us. He got many times their initial offer but his services came free.

I think I would be looking for it to be on a sliding scale relative to any physical injury sustained.

If I’d got out with bruises and scratches I’d consider myself fortunate and 30k would look pretty inviting.

Where do you get your figure from? How did you arrive at 7 figures.? I don't get it... Life happens... Unless it leaves you with injuries you walked away with your life isn't that more than enough compo?

Well actually if it were me the first thing I’d be asking for are is a pair of free first class tickets on any delta flight for life….. then start talking money!

Although my mate reckons Ryanair would say we got you from a to b, it didn’t say what way up you had arrive

I agree. It's a fucked up world.

*Although I will be seeking compensation for my job fucking up my ears and one day I will be that grandad with a fucking ear trumpet (despite hearing aids being offered). I feel ab ear trumpet will go nicely with the turned up moustache that I nearly own which in turn goes with my smell of mothballs and elbow patches.

I remember years ago the miners settling after decades of fighting for unsafe work practices leading to health conditions. There were hundreds of thousands of them and it was the highest payout at the time by a UK court. I remember dividing the comp figure out by the number involved, I think it amounted to a few of grand each after fees. It seemed such a low amount for the conditions x work hours x time in court.

An 'accident' is by definition something that is beyond control and something where nobody is to blame.

Compensating for actual losses and costs (like in a car accident for example) is one thing. Expecting a huge payout because something happened that couldn't be prevented is another.

It's why insurance premiums are as high as they are and why you always see those bullshit compo faced photos on local news stories because someone missed their holiday because a stray dog ate their plane tickets or some other bullshit......🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It would depend on the anticipated costs to me (including lost work, medical care if not NHS), etc.

If negligence were part of the accident - the company knew or should have known that something like this could happen - the figure would rise exponentially. Part of the deal when flying is that I expect to be safe, and companies like Boeing are known to be cutting corners.

On what basis their negligence? Might take awhile to prove that and cost you a lot of money.

Physical and emotional injuries - there’s a formula for that, I think 30,000 is a reasonable offer

When I was at Uni there was very common scam a lot of the lads would do they would get their cousins and their second cousins and arrange for 3 to 4 vehicles to have a crash. One person will take responsibility and 10 to 12 other people would all put in whiplash compensation claims. This was a common scam happening all around the Midlands Leeds Bradford with large extended families and cost the industry tens of millions.

This is one of the reasons why your insurance premiums are so high today

Yeah i did the at a junction, thought they'd gone, they hadn't I hit them at less than 5mph, the claim was for mum and grand mum and kids for whiplash... There was only one in the car. I told the insurance company but they weren't interested, just wanted to pay out and clear their desks. There seems a thought process it's free money.

FML and there's me, I was knocked off my bike and then run over. No Compo for pain and suffering, just covered my medical bills, damage to my bike and clothing, and loss of earnings.

Apparently there is no statute for pain and suffering in UK under law.

Yeah in the U.K. you can only claim for a proven financial loss like paying for physio etc.

Which is fiiiiiine unless you get PTSD and it breaks your mind from nearly dying in a freak accident.

$30k seems low, especially in the states. They could have been killed and I suspect they’ll not be in a hurry to hop back onto a plane anytime soon.
