Jeez. I'd like to say I'd sack off work and go travelling but in reality, it'd be best for me to die whilst employed, so Mr KC gets my death in service benefits. So, I'd probably just do more family stuff, travel as much as I could but not jack in work because otherwise I'd die and leave my family up the creek.

You could probably exhaust your sick leave, no? And still remain employed. Where would you travel?

No, I'd only get 4 weeks full, 4 weeks half and then down to SSP and we'd struggle soon after! I reckon they'd get rid of me ASAP if it was obvious I was going to die and was off sick. So I'd keep working as long as I could.

I don't know exactly where I'd travel but I'd like to go to South America (various), I'd like to go to China, Japan and various places in the Far East. Also nearer places like the Balkans and Croatia etc. But not the touristy bits.

I’d struggle to come to terms with it if I’m being honest and will no doubt become the most toxic person ever and burn all my bridges with all my loved ones as I’d be angry on all the things I’d miss out on - daughters weddings, grand children, travelling the world through retirement, knowing that I couldn’t continue to watch the people I love around me grow!!

I’d run off to some deplorable place and just die in solitude and alone - I’m not perfect but I’m a decent enough human being to think “why the fuck has this happened to me?!!!!”

Or I’d be completely ok with it and accept what I had lived through!!

However I would regret not having more sex either way 🤷‍♂️

Ha I love the honesty of this. Most people (I would assume) would want their loved ones nearer to them.

What kind of sex would you miss though? Meaningful sex? anonymous sex? group sex? How much sex would be enough that you could die peacefully knowing that was enough?

Hindsight is 20/20! I think I have a life insurance policy but I'm fairly sure I only went for an amount that would cover the completion of my first mortgage which was minuscule because I bought that house back in 2000. (tiny violin, I know)

I genuinely have no idea what I'd do.

Of the people I've know and do know who have limited time left they tend to maintain as much normality as possible and focus on their loved ones and how to ease their grief.

Is it a year of good health then you die?

As someone who for a year watched someone slowly die ,I can only say

" live each day as it comes" .

,tell your family you love them every day .

If you are able make memories with your loved ones..

Take videos of yourself with family. While you're gone your face may remain in their memory, but the sound of your voice fades... although you may have lots of selfies but these have no soul..

"I'd get all the practical stuff sorted so they didn't have to worry and make as many memories as I could with my kids and family. Maybe write down all the advice I could think of for the kids to go through when they needed it and I wasn't there to answer their questions.

Would probably sort through all my stuff with them too so they didn't have to do it after I'd gone as that can be really hard to do. "

I’ve loved the practical answers the most. You’re so right. I wouldn’t want my family pawing through my old stuff holding up T-shirts asking themselves ‘did she really love this one?’ or anything agonising. Better if I just clear out all my old junk. I think I read about this type of thing recently … Swedish death something. I’m going to look it up again.

"Jeez.

Oh yeah I get 4*my salary I think if I die in service.. well clearly I won't be getting it 😆😆

How about a years sabbatical

4! I only get 3x. I think my only option at work is a three month unpaid break. If I can get everyone's approval. Tight fuckers.

Yeah but neither of us actually gets it "

NOPE, not us benefiting from our own deaths. To be honest, I think I’m worth more than three times my annual salary. I think my loved ones are being short changed.

JUST SEX…whether that be all you’ve listed above or one of….im not greedy….hence why I’d probably live with that regret….maybe I need to change my approach 🤷‍♂️🤣"

Just sex. I think maybe you do need to change your approach 😃

I’d get my affairs in order. I have no one financially dependent on me so I would feel freer to leave my job or look at compressed or reduced hours and could max out my savings.

I’d try as many clubs as possible. Go on weekends away and as many holidays as possible. I’d read as much of my TBR list as possible and game as much as I could find time for. Eat what I wanted, when I wanted. Plan my funeral.

I’ve thought about this and planned for this,

Anyone that has a family get a will wrote, your family will thank you. If I had a year left I would spend lots of time with family and friends as at the end of the day that’s all that matters. I would have my family and friends help plan my funeral as I don’t want it to be an affair but I want it to be a celebration of me and my life.

I would try my best to kick some things off my bucket list and in general just have a good time. As for work I would cut my hours back as if I was to die whist employed my family would get help from the company and they would be better off.

"If you only had a year left to live, what would you do differently, if anything? "

I think about mortality quite a lot, and I've already researched various legal options overseas, shall we say. I realised at a very early age I have a biological clock that's ticking until who knows when.

It doesn't bother me at all. What bothers me is the loss of autonomy in this country at least to choose a time and place of my choosing and go painlessly and with dignity.

I don't feel I'd want to drag things out to the bitter end if it's inevitable, so if faced with a shorter diagnosis, I'd prefer to turn the lights out under my own volition and pace.

I have less time left than when I started writing this, and that is ok. It's perfectly natural.

I think a party would be nice. A couple others have said a living wake and I think that idea is beautiful. "

I'd give everyone their stuff from my will, so I could see them enjoying it, I have quite detailed plans for my estate, such as it is, give them all some good final memories of me. I lost a great friend a few years back and some of the stuff he did in the time he had left inspired me.

Weston super mare

This actually happened to me . To be honest all I could think about was paying the bills when my sick leave ran out . I came home from hospital after being told my number was up rested for a few days and then had a frank conversation with my wife . Told her all my secrets , well not exactly secrets , just things I hadn’t mentioned to her about meeting women from sex sites before fab . And then about 3sums and various other scenarios before we got together. Then took the plunge and asked if she was interested hearing about my sexual bucket list . She was shocked at 1st and wouldn’t talk to me about it . After a few days her curiosity got the better of her . And long story short after a while we actually started to meet people and she enjoyed the experience. I won’t go into the details haha . The kicker to the story is 9 months on an oncology professor from the university asked to see me , and surprised I was still relatively well ran a new battery of tests over a month and then announced that the specialist at the hospital had made a mistake. 10 years on I’m still here .
