As much as I find envelops to highly fascinating items of stationary, I must confess to hate licking them.

- And even worse when one receives a cut to the tongue as a result! 😱

Have you ever watched Seinfeld ? Envelopes play a big part for one character.

A little handy tip.

To remember the difference between stationary and stationery, the one with E (for envelope) is the collective noun for paper, envelopes, etc.

😊👍

Means bills, junk, or baliff letters for the previous house owner.

And papercuts, on my tongue in one instance.

"I maybe open 1 envelope per month and havent sent one in probly 20 yrs"

Have you seen the price of stamps these days?

I was absolutely shocked how much a first class one is now.

I can remember when 1st class was about 25p.

Ahhh….those were the days. I could buy two first class stamps and two envelopes and still have enough change to dial a random long distance number in a phone box (which smelt of urine) before going back outside and playing a jolly game of ‘Spot the white dog shit’.

I miss those days ☹️

Colchester

I remember when Covid first struck and we all went in to lockdowns.

All our post went in to quarantine for 2 weeks before we opened it, and even then we used latex gloves.

This was in the very early days when the virus and transmissibility was not well understood, so there was little to no science to guide the way and you had to take your own precautions.

Don’t want to derail the thread but white dog shit is now an extremely rarely seen phenomenon!

It was a most glorious sight; like pieces of naturally occurring chalk.

….It was not so good for scribbling with though as it turned out…

"Never lick an envelope is my advice "

Amen! I heard a highly disquieting story once that involved someone licking an envelope and inadvertently cutting their tongue on it….

A few weeks later the person’s tongue began to swell, necessitating a visit to the doctors whereupon it was discovered that the wound was in fact full of grubs(!!!) - the eggs of which were ostensibly in the adhesive on the envelope 😱😱

(The whole story could be an urban myth but even so….it is rather unnerving!)

This one was just a regular small Jiffy envelope, supplied by the company I was mailing it back to.
