Same here, but after that i took a great interest in him! Amazing the conditions he and the early f1 drivers competed in. In the early years deaths were a common place in the sport

I watched a docco about the progression of safety in the sport and in some races people would literally crash and burn and the race would go on they would just drive around them! Sickening

Even when Jackie Stewart started rocking the safety boat, the FIA tried to discredit him. Drivers were completely expendable. If you didn't accept that there was a more than 50% chance you would die racing - and still got in the car and drove - you were considered a wimp. Shameful.

i remember it like it was yesterday - sad loss and he campaigned tirelessly for better safety regulations - lets not florget the other guy who died the same weekend - ratzenberger - prob not spelt right and i think whats his name - the really happy guy was in a bad accident there too Z

Recently re read both Jackie Stewart & Nokia laudas biographys truelly frightening how unsafe the cars and tracks were .R.I.P Roland Ratzenberger & Ayrton senna da silva .
