If their partner knows, no

If they don’t, yes.

I’ve never really seen it like that tbh. Although it probably is. To me an affair is more intense, maybe includes love. Dunno 🤷‍♀️

I like to think of them as clandestine encounters or covert trysts. They sound more whimsical and forgiving that way, a tad benign, in fact.

Though there is a question of semantics. If you are not the one in a relationship are *you* the one having an affair? The person you are sleeping with is having an affair, no question, as they have a partner. But if you don't have a partner, but you are sleeping with someone who is being adulterous, are you also having the affair? 🤔

People say

'she/he is having an affair with a married man/woman'. So I would say that both parties are having an 'affair'.

If you're the singleton then you are considered the interloper. That's how I would see it. But I would also equally agree with the other aforementioned viewpoints. There is no single answer when discussing one's moral compass.

The person who has come in to the established relationship is the affair. Equally, the person who has broken wedlock is having an affair.
