Anyone know the best way without having to spend most of it?

Just had 2 given by the cash machine and now I’m stuck with them!

Go into the bank and ask to swap for smaller notes.

Might have to go this route.

A) shops don’t have an obligation to change them / accept them. b) the bank is 10x further away for me.

I'm surprised at a cash machine issuing them. Usually it's 20s and 10s

Supermarkets don’t bat an eyelid at them.

We often pay for groceries in cash.

I have only three times in my life seen a £50 note !

Never got one out of a cashpoint even when I withdraw £200

I know what you mean. Years ago when my mum did Avon, someone once paid with a £50 note and she shouted us all in to see it, as it was the first one we'd seen.

If you order euros for home delivery they always put €50 notes in. It drives me mad.

When I first came here I had nothing but £50s. It's what they give you in foreign exchange. It was such a hassle

It is. We're obliged to run up a large bar bill just to use our €50 notes. It's sooooo inconvenient 🥳

Haha!

I was waiting for my bank account - it was a hassle as a new resident with a shiny visa - and I was counting my pennies. Fortunately I only occasionally had pushback in the supermarket, because that was the only thing I couldn't avoid buying - food.
