Best and worst part of living on your own?

Birmingham

For those that live on their own what do you find are the pros and cons?

I've lived by myself for several years and for me the biggest downside is not having anyone to cook for. I love cooking but it's just not the same doing it for yourself

The thing I find hardest is if you’re really tired or not well, there’s no one else to walk the dog, sort dinner etc. It’s you or no one.

Best: Freedom to come and go when I please, if I don't feel like cleaning it's just me it hampers and no one else.

Worst: no one to talk to at the end of the day, no closeness etc. I can go home from work and not speak a single sentence till its time to go to work the next morning

The production on it is a bit dated, and the 'de-do-de-de' bit is a little naff.

Best: can cook what I want, sprawl in bed, tv choice is all mine.

Worst: loneliness, no cuddles, no kisses, no one to care for me when I'm feeling crappy or down. It actuallu hurts sometimes but I've learnt to just accept it.

The worst parts for me are no one to sharing bills and chores. Chores, especially when ill.

The best is not having to explain things to anyone, do as I please without having to think of others.

I live with my son and my daughter lives half with me so not completely alone but assuming meaning not with a partner

Best - peace and quiet, watch whatever want on the telly, not getting nagged for work pants left on dining room table ect

Worst - some nights the company would be nice, also coming home after a long hard shitty day at work especially in winter nice to have someone to come home too, getting a Chinese and watching a film much better with somebody else

Yeah absolutely. I agree with the others that people have said like chores, bills etc but it's the cooking one that really gets me. Seeing someone enjoying a meal you've enjoyed making is such a great feeling.

I don't get that same satisfaction cooking a meal from scratch when it's for myself

Honestly? After many years of husband (ex) raising a family, partners (ex) there is no downside to now living alone.

I’m happy in my own company. Always pleased to welcome family and friends but I love the freedom to do as I please.

But then I remember why I’m on here

I haven't lived in my own for more than a few months in 35 years.

I do have the odd hotel night away for swingers club visits and hookups and the best bit for me in being able to do things to my own schedule rather than negotiating between housemates, pets and kids.

And the sex. That's a great bonus.

The worst is loneliness. When I was living alone back in the mists of time, having to come home to nobody, getting into bed on my own, that was tough.

I need the companionship of having people around me. I've lived like this for too long and the prospect of being alone now is crushing.

Best: everything being exactly as I want it and not having to compromise with a partner who wants to put something dreadful on a wall.

Perhaps different for me. Now a widower . But was single for over twenty years before that. Although was working away most of that. Yes have to do all jobs . Not that bothered doing.

I think my biggest downside yes being alone as retired now. Especially winter times. Dark about 1630 to 0800. People indoors as cold weather. Even if out. Unless in somewhere warm or out wind , rain. May chat . But not have time.

Best: The freedom to spend your time, money and mental energy however you want, without having to compromise or worry you might hurt someone else's feelings... Also, no-one moans if you just want to stay in bed all morning, masturbating. 😂

Worst : The bloody cost of everything!.. And the lack of someone to talk to about your hopes or fears. The single life can lead to lying awake at night, overthinking all your problems.

I like to:

Phone my friend who has 3 kids and lives in bedlam and ask him if he can hear the noise at my end. When he says no, tell him neither can I and isn't it nice and how I'm just about to have a nap on the sofa.

Send my other friends with kids photos of my chocolate tin and tell them that ALL of the contents will still be there when I get home from work.

In fairness, I do point out that in their older years, when they have a fall, at least one of their kids will probably be around to pick them back up, whereas I'll just be found by a cleaning crew.

Been retired nearly 7 years now, like my music, reading, football on TV, cooking for one is worst, I go to pub meet brother fortnightly, meet mate for few beers once a week, watch Chelsea on sky with neighbour.

I miss someone in my life for holidays away, go alone but not the same, no foreign holiday for 25years, Sussex now or isle of wight, be nice to have a regular friend to wank with, or have good snog, I do x dress for my pleasure, as it turns me on in stockings and suspenders, nervous meeting at my flat, as trust big issue, like a man to touch me and wank me, now 71, love to be seduced sometime or ride a nice cock, not sure if I'm confident enough though
