Having done a couple of things recently that I would consider out of character, I'm now wondering if maybe I was wrong about my character. In a good way. 🤔

How do you know if your judgement of your character is accurate? Are you open to reassessing your character? Have you done anything out of character recently?

A pick and mix of questions and musings.

I think a lot of people (not a personal comment) are poor judges of their characters. They think about what they'd like to be, and excuse what doesn't fit into that self concept

I think that by the time we arrive at a view of what our personality is, or who we are, that person has already gone to be replaced by someone new, the person who can see and evaluate what we were once blind to.

To see who we really are, right now, we need to see ourselves in the mirror of other people.

I sometimes think the person my logical brain wants me to be, and the person my lizard brain wants me to be are two completely different people.

Logical brain: if I’m a stingy git I can be debt free (minus the mortgage) by the end of the year!

Lizard brain: but you’ve paid the credit card down enough to whack a holiday on it! You deserve a break!

Logical brain: I don’t need a man, and I’m not accepting poor behaviour. They need to treat me right or I’ll move on to the next.

I don't think any of us are that good judges of our own character. My experience is we are either too hard on ourselves or too forgiving, often for the wrong reasons.

I think the best judgement on our character is from those closest to us.

I always trust my gut & my instinct , they're there to protect you , l can understand if a person acts out of character ..ie, a person might be quite in nature & maybe let things

slid because she's quite..but loses it one day simply because she had enough of whatever it was , now that's seems out of character BUT I think it's not out of character..it's just a part of her character she never used before.

Oh god!

I'm quite grateful to be blissfully unaware of my self to a certain extent. I think it is what makes me not too bothered by what strangers think of me and what made attempts to bully me fail (in all but one case) because I just didn't recognise the version of me they were targeting 🤔.

I did a lot of things "out of character" when I hit 50. A friend thought I was having a mid life crisis. Maybe I was, but I think I just stopped giving a crap and decided I was going to put myself first for the first time in my life!

Sometimes people will say you're acting out of character when all you're doing is putting yourself first. They're not used to that

Sometimes people will say you're acting out of character when all you're doing is putting yourself first. They're not used to that "

I wouldn't say I've done anything out of character recently but have noticed more of my actual character coming out. What used to be a worry about people not liking who I actually am and trying to be as inoffensive as possible suddenly doesn't really matter anymore. I know the people who like me for me and not too fussed about hiding my actual characteristics.

I'm better at knowing myself now than when I was a youngster. It's really easy to internalise and get bogged down with the labels slapped on you by other people, usually family. "You're the quiet/polite/shy/timid one" etc. But in reality, our characters are constantly evolving, some being more open to it than others.

I don't think I've done anything out of character recently.
