I would say that for the most part I have always been good at remembering names easily, sometimes I might not remember the name straight away, but after a while I know it again, but it doesnt happen often.

Here is an interesting thing, did you know that people are generally more accustomed to recognising faces than remembering names, as we encounter many faces in daily life without needing to remember their names? Do you think that this could be down to the frequency and exposure when you meet people?

It would be interesting to see if you can remember names easily too?

Faces I never forget, names I am terrible

This isn’t helps with 100’s of clients who I see once or twice thinking I am there best friend they all know me but I have no idea who they are. And when visiting suppliers abroad getting introduced to 10’s of people very briefly and being expected to remember every last one of them

I am terrible with names but good with faces. And I'm always too embarrassed to ask someone I've met a few times their name because I feel I should know it. I was told once that I should repeat it a couple of times when told it and that helps it stick in your head.

I make an effort to learn names working in clubs makes the guests feel a bit more valued if you greet them by name or are able to introduce them to other people without saying "sorry, what's your name again" every time. There are some names that just won't stick in my head so I apply some kind of mnemonics magic to remember

Know I’m fucking terrible even people I’ve known ages and haven’t seen in awhile I forget their name when I see them, the amount of people who say hello to me and know my name and I have no idea who they are is shamefully large haha

I can know people for 10/20 years, but still walk past them in the street, even if they speak to me I cannot always recognize them (I walked past my bf who later became my husband 3 times on holiday outside the agreed liaison spot.... he was furious!!).

I constantly feel at a disadvantage in real life - I think I adapted to wfh so well because suddenly I had photos + names of people on zoom. I screenshot attendees as part of my notes, so I can study them if I need to seek out people in the office!

I'm useless with names. I work in lots of different factories and invariably half the staff know who I am and greet me by name. I find it quite disconcerting being asked questions about something random from my personal life by a person I've no recollection of talking to before and who I only remember as a face of a staff member I've seen around the place.

Other people will be introduced and I'll get to know then reasonable well over numerous work visits but I'll have no memory of their name. My wife is a bugger and loves using this to embarrass me. If we bump into anyone from my working life while we're out and about she will make sure she asks loud and clear who the person is knowing full well there's a good chance that while I may know the person well enough to have a chat with, I won't have a clue what they're called

I'm not quite as bad as this and generally pretty good with remembering faces but I do find my inability to remember the names to go with them deeply embarrassing. It happens occasionally with normal words, I'll be halfway through saying something and, much like with names, I know what I want to say, I just can't get my brain to pull the information out of my head and send it to my mouth.

My hell is being in a room full of people I know but don’t see often. Names don’t come easily to me unless they’re really unusual. At that point they become a definitive person I find easy to remember.

Faces I rarely forget.

100% This has always worked for me. I have a great ability to remember names if I say so myself.

The first time someone says their name to you, repeat back out loud to yourself and then to them to reaffirm if the pronunciation is correct. Ask them is that what people typically call them if their name seems more 'formal' ie, william vs will.

This always makes it stick alongside with name dropping within your first conversation with them

Useless at names unless I can tie the face to a place with context. I meet a lot of people in my every day life in static areas. If I meet them outside of that, it's a case of .....hmm., Dave, no Mike, Sally, that's it!
