Treacherous stuff, nostalgia. Even when it's true it diminishes today's happiness, and tomorrow's hopes.

Do you think they used to be more controversial than now? I feel that there is a lot more judgement currently

When I joined 6 years ago it was dominated by around 4 people and every other thread was a game (I think that's why the game forum was opened) or an innocent thread that turned really savage. There was still a lot of repetitive topics...but they didn't cycle as quickly.

A lot of general posters from that time have moved on - either due to age or change in circumstances ... or been banned

I guess since covid there are far more people just getting on with life than posting on fab 😆😆

Nothing wrong with voicing opinions. But I'd hate to go back to the days when it was all out war in the forums and abuse was flying left, right and centre. Wasn't pleasant to be around nor read. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting. The threads in the Politics section are generally far more balanced and informative than those lounge threads which attempt to tackle serious subjects; also far more tolerant of opposing opinions.

Occasionally a Lounge thread gets moved there and the quality and diversity of the discussion immediately improves!

2017 was when I first joined and the forums could be like the Wild West at times.

There were quite a few big characters and some who used to just be on there to create drama. There were groups of groups of friends who would go on threads and take over. Everyone seemed or wanted to know your business or thought they knew. Gossip was rife and the MLS social was like a real life version of the forums 😋

Are the forums more inclusive? Yes

Are the forums less drama? Yes

Are the forums more boring now? Also yes 😂

All over

People often care a lot more about what others do and not enough about what they do themeselves. When you visit a bookshop there are thousands of books. Usually you would go to the section that interests you and from time to time look at something different too. Same here, you can choose what and how much you read and participate in. As for opinions, that is how we often learn but how those are expressed also matters, to me anyway. Some people have an air of superiority that is not attractive. I only personally got involved in the forums once I learned to ignore that and now I post for myself, not to please others. Noone should imo. In the main Iike the lounge, I learn a lot, talk to lots of nice people and also passes the time when I need deflection. I also met some nice people from it and hope to meet more. Sorry, was that too long?
