More money than sense..

So I was just checking my outlook work emails and whatnot and logged out, afterwards I get redirected to MSN.

To which I was greeted with one of the most perverse stories I've ever read.

Some guy in India commissioned a shirt to be made out of Solid Gold at a cost of $162,000 dollars.

And here's me worrying about kids in Africa with flies all over their heads and no food.

I have serious moral issues with anyone who can justify that level of arrogance. The guy was from India and given the level of poverty that country has is just gross.

In the words of Warren Buffet "If you were an idiot before a Billion dollars, your still and idiot...who just has a Billion Dollars".

Any thoughts and who read the same story?..

its very easy to judge when you nly know what the journalist wans to tell you.

This is nothing new - in India. Go back to when Rolls Royce started and their biggest export market was mega rich Maharajas who wanted to show off their wealth by riding around in some of the most vulgar Rollers ever built - one of which had a body made of solid gold.

It's something deeply rooted within Indian culture - to show off your wealth, often in a way which 'us nice white folks' find abhorrent, whilst all around you is abject poverty.

Nothing new at all, sorry to say...

I don't think one or two people quite understand the level of pov erty in that country.

My parents do a lot for Charities in South Africa, but they receive a lot of Paraphanalia from Charities operating in India.

I probably find that more shocking than most as I have been exposed to the work my parents do my whole life.

I should do more myself, but I don't have the resources personally.

I just read it and thought wtf?

fully agree there is disparity between rich and poor in this country but not as much as in india

but never fear this gov is working on it and we will catch them up

However....You have absolutely no way of knowing if this individual is himself a major donator to local and national charities in India.

Nope.

I would just prefer to get on with people rather than try to pick a fight, which is what it seems/feels to me.

You were reading into something that just wasn't there/existed in the first place.

It was in the news last week. Mr Gold, as he is known, likes his gold.

The price of gold fluctuates so it's worth different amounts at different times.

I might not think it's good way to spend money but it wasn't mine to spend. Is it any different to Damien Hirst's diamond skull, For the Love of God? 8,600 flawless diamonds. We all know how we get diamonds.
