Is there a way of forgetting someone you've really cared about and move on with life without the thought of that person popping into your head when you hear something or see something that reminds you of them.

I just want the world to stop and let me off........

It's the old cliche that time heals. It will be raw at first but with time it will get better

Completely? No.

As others say, time helps. Being busy helps too. Throw yourself into things that affirm you

All over

Not very nice and the time it will take varies from person to person. The intensity will go an eventually only very occasional things will trigger the memory. In these situations the best coping mechanism is distraction and some good friends.

I don't know if it's bereavement or separation but in a way they're similar.

There isn't a way to forget. I think acceptance if or when you can achieve that makes it easier. You can think about the person without it consuming you when that happens.

Sometimes you just need to sit with something for as long as it takes.

You know, whilst I can totally relate to your words. At times now, I miss the memories and how vivid they were, of my wife.

As others have said you never forget them you learn to live with the memories which can be hard at first and will break your heart so many times but as time goes on you will smile again at the memories I've learnt that so much over the last 2 years

All over devon, I love a road trip!

This too shall pass.

When things are bad, remember.

It won't always be this way.

Take one day at a time.

When things are good, remember.

It won't always be this way.

Enjoy every great moment

Hope things get better for you...

Time. It can take YEARS mind you, but you’ll reach a point where you think of them and it won’t hurt.

They say times a great healer 2.5 years later I’m still trying to get over someone who was really special to me, maybe harder cos we’re still in touch. Wish I had advice for you but I don’t sorry. Keeping yourself busy maybe, book things to look forward to. Anything that can occupy your mind. Take care of yourself x

Memories will always be there which isn't a bad thing, it's the reaction to it that causes the effect. As time passes, your emotions detach and those memories are a passing thought rather than overwhelming feeling. Give it time, give yourself a break and feel what you need to feel. We aren't meant to forget people but we can take the life lessons that come with them.

No.

And ironically the more you try not to think about them the more you will think about them.

Annoying isn't it.

Try to let the thoughts come and go without forcing anything might help

It’s been 11 months since things ended and today I heard a song that reminds me of him and what we were. I burst into tears. But having said that, it does get easier and the length of time between those reminders gets longer.

You think that it might go away and you don't think about them for ages and then something simple like a smell or tune or even a phrase can bring back a really strong memory. It can be both a blessing and a curse but I wouldn't want to lose that ability to remember good or bad.
