Ive recently been to a club night, and for a single man it was x3 more expensive than a single woman. I understand why it done, but i dont agree with it. Surely this is illegal because its discriminating based on gender? I wondered what were your thoughts?

It's not illegal

They're essentially using women as bait hence why they charge women so little

Lots of places including normal night clubs do it

Id argue that it is, men get charged more because they are men. Isnt that discrimination?

If you google ‘ is it legal to charge different prices based on gender’ the answer seems pretty obvious.

I’m not looking to do anything about it. Just wanted to know what others thought.

So over millions and millions of people, men get into more accidents

I think it is allowed because they are private members clubs and they can have different memberships for different people.

Night clubs (because they are pure businesses) are not allowed to discriminate based on sex - although many clearly do.

It's not discrimination. It's commerce.

It's the pussy privilege and penis

pound strategy and it works very well.

As long as men continue to pay it then it won't change.

Two of the private clubs in Ireland that charged men double have recently closed and the new one that charges every individual (couple or not) the same price is thriving.

It is direct discrimination, but noones going to take that to court.

I think you'd also struggle to justify that you had been seriously impacted by the service being available to you at a higher price, whatever the law says that would be part of the agenda. The comparison for car insurance for example, is totally different as you are required to have car insurance by law.

Another example of sex discrimination is a club which offers free entrance only to women. However, a private members' club is allowed to discriminate against women or men in this way. Examples of a private members' club include working men’s clubs, golf clubs, bowling clubs, and gentlemen’s clubs.

Although private members' clubs can discriminate against their members, they are not allowed to discriminate against their employees because of sex.

Needs to happen here, one of the reasons I've no interest in going, that and the fact men are vetted for some events but not the women, so pay double and turn up to find a load of 5s/6s squished into lingerie 3 size too small....nah I'm good thanks....🥪

It's not illegal, they are entitled to charge what they like. It's a private club. Yes I suppose it's does sort of discriminate between gender. But it's entirely your choice. I was told by a club owner the reason they price that way was because it worked better for them to have more females and couples. And to allow guests to bring select single males.

Private members only clubs do not have to comply to equality legislation as strictly, and there is dispensation for pricing differences to deal with specific imbalances between genders attending. I would presume that's why most clubs are allowed to charge different rates based on gender.

The alternative is likely that the club would not be commercially viable without the difference rates. More men would go, less women would go and eventually that would lead to no-one going.

Ask yourself, what would you prefer?

It is quite a interesting thought to a degree - and it would certainly be very interesting if it was the other way around if it would be as widely accepted/not challenged or as dismissed as some have done above.

As someone has put above, there have been enough legal challenges in the past decade or so against certain establishments that may have had a similar policy or an outright ban on one sex from entering, to force them to change said policy and allow them in and they are not allowed to discriminate on gender.

Therefore it can't be a case of "one rule for one" - if everyone is equal, everyone is equal, right?

Just a thought, nothing more

It's entirely possible for a club to sell a certain number of tickets for each class of member without gouging anyone and still turn a profit.

As it stands men who are willing to pay are simply subsidising the ticket prices for women or couples.

Men who don't like it should be mad at men who pay and don't care because business is business and no one has be be fair when the goal is to make money.

If you don’t like it, just don’t go

Would you feel the same if they charged different prices based on race? ...🥪

Ah.

It's never late hahaha

Challenge: don’t ask a Black person ‘would you feel the same about race?’

Difficulty: impossible

It cracks me up because you are a MAN so the price structure already affects you so why did he even say that?? LOOOOOOLLLLLLL

Private clubs are allowed to discriminate against members based on gender. Yes I think the law sucks, but the clubs are within their rights currently to do so.

As if only 70 years ago black people weren't even allowed to go to the same schools, ride the same buses and drink from the same water fountains as white people

Private clubs like any business has a right to choose who and what kind of service to provide. You as a customer have a right to agree or not use their services.

Its same pub can have rule not serve away fans or clubs having dress codes. Regular clubs and bars wont let in mire men if it starts to be a sausage fest.

Its a private business so their house their rules.

I mean, prior to the race relations act in this country there were all kinds of racism legally going on. Including refusing to rent to or employ Black people. The experiences of Black people across the diaspora are invariably related to the experiences of others across the diaspora.

If men got charged the same as single women the place would be full of cock them men would be complaining about that "

Clubs would ban single men apart from a greedy girl event and raise the price slightly and just have couples amd single females, lots of clubs already do have no single men nights

The irony with clubs is they would charge black men less because of the perceived sexualisation of black men. So the OP would have even more to complain about.

Personally, I would rather clubs charged per person and vetted their single male clients. I've met some lovely single men in the lifestyle; I hate that they are charged so much more just because the majority of men attending clubs form what we call "the wanking dead".

I know of some event organisers on sites that can not be named here that charge per person but limit single male tickets. This makes so much more sense to me than charging a fortune for any tom, dick or harry who walks in.

What about if there was a free buffet? I honestly have no idea how much it is to get into one of these prestigious clubs, what does it cost for a single chap?

"Not complaining, please read what i said. I understand the logic but think there must be other ways to get the same effect."

I think it would be quite easy to limit male numbers by having pre sale tickets only. I guess clubs have built a business model on charging men more but it would be interesting to see them try a different way.

You could restrict the number of men that are allowed to attend by making it pre booked guest list only but then you run the risk that it becomes a clique

I have no issue with being charged more. Whatever you pay does not guarantee you anything

I’d rather pay more for a well organised and safe environment for all where anyone is removed or banned for poor behaviour and I mean anyone

I think clubs charge single men more because they cost more.

All that blue roll & sanitiser they use after wanking everywhere.

The reams of tissue whilst they’re crying that they can’t “get lucky”

""It is unlawful to offer goods or services to women and men at a range of different prices. The Equality Act 2010 provides that a retailer must not discriminate against the customer by providing them on different terms, on the basis of someone’s sex"

Who'da thunk it.....🥪"

So close….

But if you had read a little bit further you would have gotten the answer

You are allowed to discriminate if certain people are in effect underrepresented!

Men who complain are looking at it the wrong way around… it not the fact that everyone else are paying normal and single men then pay more to penalise…. Its that everyone is paying normal and single women are charged less as an incentive to reduce the underrepresentation

OP, I won't pretend to be clued up on laws around swinging. So I wouldn't know what's legal and what isn't. But I do agree, charging single men double or triple is ridiculous.

If it was the other way around a d women were expected to pay double or triple the rate a single man had to pay, there would be complete uproar on here.

Just another case of fabs' double standards for you. I hope after posting this you've learnt you can't have an opinion on anything unless it sits well with the majority.

Funny how at clubs where everyone is required the same level of effort for their outfit charge the same entrance fee regardless of gender -torture garden and antichrist for example.

At swinging club Women spend a fortune on their hair, make up, nails, accessories, shoes, lingerie, body grooming. Men rock up in jeans and a polo shirt. Flop their cocks out of their flies, wank and any possibility of action and have an issue with keeping their goddamn hands to themselves. It's totally possible to talk to women without holding onto them or groping as the walk by (not all men- there are a fair few that get it)

You've said it yourself.. not all men. By increasing prices yes you're more likely to get rid of the wanking dead that have less disposable income than others. But it won't stop those that can afford to go.. does having more money make you less likely to be a creep? I think not.

Also, come on. We choose to dress, have nails, make up, waxes. Some men like to make an effort too, haircut, skincare, grooming, some even wear make up. So maybe those ones should pay less too?

I also said at clubs where the same level of effort is required then men and women pay the same. If women turned up with no make up, hair in a srunchy and sweats ala waynetta slob then perhaps there wouldn't be club lists filled with single guys wanting to attend. Maybe all clubs should select members based on looks. Have clubs only for the sexy people and charge the same. Like KV, kK and LB

Personally I feel it's also discriminating based on gender that women who menstruate have to pay for sanitary products for years, and if they have children that they don't receive their full pay during maternity leave. But funnily enough you don't see any threads where men are whinging about that? So if you've got to pay an extra 20 quid to get into a swingers club as a bloke, I'd say just suck it up Buttercup

I think the pricing is ridiculous but I also understand why it happens.

There wouldn't be uproar if it was the other way round because it would never happen. Unless women were massively in the majority in which case we'd have all grown up with an entirely different acceptance of needing a way to reduce the number of women. And some people would be arguing why it's unfair and others why it's necessary. 🤷‍♀️

No one forces women to have their hair/nails, new lingerie, a wax, a spa weekend before the event or anything else. We choose to spend that money on ourselves.

A completely moot point, unless men at clubs require this and we’re just doing it for the men, which of course said no woman ever.

"So the consensus seems to be yeah it's discrimination by gender. But it's ok because it's the way it's always been. I wonder how that would work if let's say they charged black folks more or disabled folks more or fat people more. "

Yet again someone is mentioning race (and in this case Black people) and yet it’s the usual suspects that will complain there’s a clique because we decide to respond to call out the needlessness.

This forum literally never ever changes. Nasty.

It's also the same people that would probably argue against you if you actually brought up some discrimination experience by any of these groups tbh

Near the airport

This is one of those topics that:

a. comes up periodically.

b. screams of butthurt.

By paying to attend a club you are paying for the priveledge of getting in, there are no guarantees beyond that.

Do you bitch if a Student pays less for public transport or a pensioner gets a meal deal in a cafe? (age discrimination).

Do you begrudge a nurse or police officer getting a Blue Light discount? ( Discrinination based on occupation).

I'm sure you have more pressing things to worry about than being charged more than a woman or couple for access to an area that you choose to go to. Good luck at the European Court of Human Rights.

"OP, I won't pretend to be clued up on laws around swinging.

If women had to pay double or triple the price then they just wouldn't go. There wouldn't be an "uproar" it's not that deep

Do you think women would pay equal (say £20 for all) if they knew male numbers were limited and vetted ?

Definitely. My favourite club night is £25 per person regardless of gender. It's a vetted bi/pan night and is the friendliest, most inclusive night I've been to. "

Could probably apply that argument to nearly all threads on here though. It's just a chat thread. Aren't there more pressing things to complain about.

Thanks. I hope most women and couples are able to see most men who use clubs as more than just whingers and wankers and would maybe be more comfortable with equal pricing, as long as the numbers and standards were equal too ?

Is it not permitted to mention race in a thread about discrimination?

"Its been said a few times, and I'm wondering, Are clubs where pricing is equal really sausage fests though?

Maybe pricing isnt the best way to manage numbers of attendees. "

Exactly. Easy to pre sell tickets and easier to vet people and control numbers that way too.

I actually think it's a very loud and very small minority. It always seems to be the same profiles piling onto what they see as a dissenting voice to their righteous opinions. No debate is tolerated, they just like to swarm and ridicule.
