The first chippy I went to was in the village I grew up in. My fondest memory was seeing a haddock delivered. Yes, I said “a” haddock. It was so large two people struggled to lift it over the counter. These days over fishing makes the whole fish a portion.

Early sixties, chip shop down the Pleck Walsall, newspaper wrapped before salt and vinegar became rationed, shortly afterwards Black Anna`s opposite the community centre Kingswinford, golden chips and plaice.. I believe they were fried in lard .. healthy option.

Sagittarius A

The chips were served in newspaper and could feed a family of 4.

They were also delicious.

Choice was limited but it was all good, cheap and large portions. I know I sound like a miserable old fart now, but wtaf. Now it's like £10 for pie and chips and you can count how many chips you get.
