I think men are more likely to look at winks than women because if they're inundated with messages, then they'll probably see winks as low effort.

Personally, I state in my profile to wink if they're interested because not all women like messaging first and I don't like wasting time curating messages with no response. At least if they wink me, I know there's interest there to feel confident making contact

Because in my experience nearly all of my 'engagements' have been instigated by incoming messages. I place a significantly lower emphasis on winks.
