I always take them off; it’s simply good manners.

( I hate wearing my classic doc martins though it’s a long lace up time !) off and on

"No one is expected to take their shoes off when they enter my home."

Nor here, mainly cos of wooden floors and the fact my wheels traipse around and so removing shoes is largely ceremonial and pointless. Yes, we clean, sweep and vacuum the floor but you can't do clean wheelchairing. I've been tracking rock salt all over the place in recent weeks

I'd say it all depends on what's going to happen as soon as you walk through the door?? No point wasting time taking your shoes off if you don't need to 🤔

If working I carry overshoes, if visiting it depends on the flooring, carpet it's off 100% unless it's realy not good carpet hard floor probably leave on.

So yes have been known to go in shoes on then take them off say at the bottom of the stairs.

I ask. I wouldn’t automatically take them off unless they were dirty.

I don’t have any carpet downstairs in my house so I’m not bothered unless they’re caked in mud.

I will ask. I don't want to be taking them off (unless I'm at home or feel at home), but I will if that's how they do them.

La la land

Depends on the house. Non rural I'll pull them off. Rural you come in via the back door and they tend to stay on in kitchens. You don't use front doors, that's the posh entrance.

Wouldn't you ask? As a guest, it seems appropriate to request how you are preferred, in someone's home, rather than expecting them to have to issue instructions
