sometimes it happens where you see your message read and then come back and it is then unread. is it a site glitch? 🤔🤔

We do it if only one has read the message. Acts as a reminder for the other to read

If it’s a definite no from one party it gets read and deleted immediately

We do the same - if one of us reads it first they mark it as unread so the other knows it’s a new message.

Carlisle usually

It means they've marked it as unread.

Sometimes it's because they intend to come back to it. Fairly common with couples or people that were just intending to scan through and clear out the obvious rubbish and read the good ones when they have the time and headspace without all the inbox clutter.

Or, more often, because they want to avoid the hassle of people getting angry that their message was read and ignored and hurling abuse, without the definitive fuck off vibe of just blocking someone.

Seconded.. we do the same. As both of us read the messages.

If one reads it first, but the other hasn't.. everything is a joint decision with us so it helps keto the inbox tidy

I do it to remind myself to come back to the message if I don't have time to reply. Rare that happens though

I set back to unread if I don't get a chance to reply, or need time to send a reply that's worthy of more effort.

Yeah exactly, I think the OP is overthinking this to be honest.

Overthinking/confused. I use it almost like a bookmark, or the equivalent!

The best advice op is to delete every message as soon as you send it and then you don't spend time checking if they have been read or not.

Much less stressful.

All over

People do for various some of which have been shared. There are those and it's their perogative. There are a few though that read and then unread just because that's how they roll (pretend). That I must say is a bit weird but again is their inbox so up to them how they manage it.

We sometimes read messages then mark them unread so that we can come back to them later and reply to them properly.
