Name a character who technically isn't a villain but you consider to be one.

I start.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Also, C3PO from Star Wars…

He was going to allow our heroes to be eaten by Ewoks(!!!) I mean bloody Ewoks for Christ’s sake!

What a selfish bastard eh?

Yeah and those Ewoks were some villainous, feral little bastards to!

"Elrond; failed to stop Isildur from keeping the ring, sent others to clean up his mess and then tried to send his daughter away and break the line of kings"

Talking of LOTR, Gandalf simply must get a mention; He could have summoned his giant eagles to transport and drop the ring into Mount Doom but noooo.

He made those poor, innocent little Hobbits undertake the perilous (and bloody lengthy!) journey whilst likely thousands of lives were lost in ensuing battles all over Middle Earth which could have been completely avoided

How about most of the characters in The Big Bang Theory.

On first watch it tries to be another Friends but as you get to see more of the characters there is only one who I can think of that I would actually like. They almost all have absolutely awful characters.

Chief Brody: Those people knew the potential risks going into the ocean and the poor old shark was a bit peckish after all.

If it wasn’t bad enough Brody blew up one magnificent specimen - and might I add, endanger species! - he subsequently went on to electrocute another in the sequel(!!!) 😢😜

Grandad in Willy Wonka.

If he’s able to leap out of bed, do a little dance before taking Charlie round a chocolate family then he can get out of bed and contribute to the family. He may be retired but he could have definitely helped Charlie’s mum out around the house the lazy freeloader

"Elrond; failed to stop Isildur from keeping the ring, sent others to clean up his mess and then tried to send his daughter away and break the line of kings"

·

Now now, Mr Chai-Chimp 🩶, Elrond was unable to coerce Isildur directly because he himself possessed Vilya (one of the rings of power) and it would have caused discord in his reasoning to weald the One Ring.

Also, he spent nigh on a millennia or two fighting Melkor (Morgoth), Sauron's master, and the time had come for Men to carve their path upon Middle-Earth during the twilight of the age of Elves, for they were heading West to the Undying Lands.

Elrond would only accept Arwen's betrothal to Aragorn if/when Aragorn would become king of both Gondor and Arnor. During the War of the Ring the outcome of Sauron's defeat was still unclear, hence his reticence.

"The bat vigilante in Gotham"

I'd add Tony Stark to that. More from the comics. Built a super prison and threw some of his colleagues in there with no trial. Oh and once caused the death of a super villain while d*unk and on control of his costume.

Batman

He's a vigilante. He just happens to be fabulously wealthy and believes that his actions are justifiable. In stepping outside the law, he is a criminal.

He's not an ideal to aspire to. He is a warning and a reminder that the line between villain and "hero" is very precarious indeed, if not impossible to define.

Villain’s who aren’t, though? Oliver Reed in anything (but esp. teaching Paul Heiney how to act as a villain in 1985 and After Dark 1991). Crossed the line, sure, but ever so politely. Get home safe, hoss.
