Movement of jah people.

Just heard a story that over 11k millionaires left the UK last year. Whilst it's ok, we aren't short of people, and they will be replaced many times over. But..i mean I know it's winter and all that, but is the UK a good place to be right now? Is it a happy safe vibrant exciting place for our kids to grow up with opportunities for all? Or does it feel a bit like Bournemouth, a place where old people go and stay to live because it's comfy and on the whole safe.? Does it feel a bit rudderless right now?

On balance the UK is better than most places, but if you have the means to live anywhere I don't think many people would choose to live here.

Probably right. I think the constant news and media stories of how shit we are, it's easy to forget some of the better things.

France, And sometimes in

I'd say most if not all of those people would leave for tax purposes but will still spend as much time as they can in the UK. I bet they haven't sold their property. Although UK may appear to be doing down the drain it still can be a great place to live and have a good time, especially when you have money to spend.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a reflection on the quality of the uk as a place to live, people with large amounts of money can visit and holiday as they wish anywhere round the world, they don’t wish to be resident here more for fiscal reasons than the aesthetics

There are lots of bits of the UK I wouldn't live in, but I like the bit I live in.

I think that a lot of the population have become like some of those old people you see sitting in bus shelters or the corner of the pub constantly complaining about the state of the country, youngsters of today, the government (whatever colour it is), the weather and telling anyone who will listen that life was so much better in the 'old days'.

Obviously this country isn't perfect but it's better than a lot of places.

Well I just came back

Seriously, if I was working still or had young children, I would not be choosing the UK. Extortionately high tax, really bad health and education systems, transport is okay I guess but very expensive compared to other countries, high crime, high cost of living.

Most people I know working for global companies earning more than 100K a year have either got out or are getting out.

Are they millionaires? I guess a lot of people that own a property in the UK and I built up a few hundred K in pension savings are technically millionaires nowadays…..

The UK has well over three million millionaires. 11k leaving is no big deal, even if it is more than previous years.

All over

There is good and bad everywhere. There are certainly things that have changed and sadly most of it is attitude and behaviour of people. Also society as a whole is a lot less caring (goverment especially) for those in need and struggle and some have become pariahs. Those with relatively comfortable income and a place to call their own, can still enjoy a lot that is on offer here and also travel to explore elsewhere. Lots of people though sadly don't have that. The big divide between the have and have nots is getting bigger all the time and that brings inevitably lots of societal issues. There is much arrogance in those of us that do better than others forgetting that not everyone has same chances in life and some are dealt a different hand in this life

I'd agree with some of that but not education. English State Schools have gone up sharply in international rankings in recent years and UK has some of the highest ranked Universities in the world. Also excellent private schools if you can afford.

Yeah they are certainly ranked well but are they really that good. My experience of Russel group is they are not good value and many city schools are awful with security guards and crazy numbers now on the SEN registers , the ones in the county are generally better though.

I think they are probably better than many places and on a par with private international schools but they are not free when you’re losing half your income in tax and NI nothing is free

Our international students are all here for the Russell group. You try clearing anyone towards a polytechnic!
