Pretty nerdy, typical board games kind of stuff but am nerdy about topics I'm interested in. Mostly marine related topics and more broadly ecology.

Yes, a really interesting time period generally. The scientific hubris of the day coupled with secularisation of intellectual attitudes provides an interesting backdrop to a society which was still fundamentally Christian. How authors navigate these and to what end is something I like considering.

But... I'm not sure that's something that has mass appeal in terms of conversation

That's fair 😊 although I find it's always fun when you meet someone and they tell you about a recent focus of theirs! I love hearing people speak at length about something they're knowledgeable of. It's definitely subjective though!

Out of interest is there any literature you'd recommend to a lay person on the topic? I'd be interested in reading around it sometime.

To be honest I mostly looked at essays and articles on Google scholar bc I have free access with work. Outside of that I'm not sure. Actually a lot of what I was looking at was medical journals then literary and drawing my own conclusions. I bored people with a presentation about it all and even moreso with photos from The Old Operating Theatre in London that I took to add to my ppt.

I did read 'Science and Culture in the Nineteenth Century' by. Leeds Uni professor (Topham)- a collection of essays but I'm not sure how readily available it is. It's something I found gathering dust in the library where I work. It was interesting because it looks at different elements of science from botany to medicine to astronomy then at cultural and political dogma of the time which was undergoing a rather major state of flux.

Hehe that's totally fair, that sounds excellent I'll have a look! Thanks for sharing I really appreciate it 😀

For some extra context I write in my spare time, so I go full raccoon mode for finding out about certain new topics and interesting things to learn, collecting new experiences and potentially applying them back to my own hobby. 😌

"Oh hey, nerdette here!

I've taken my love of history into the world of gaming with AC Odyssey, Origins, Syndicate etc

I also love science. I don't proclaim to understand much of it, but I love hearing it and seeing it.

Oooh I love origins, being as Egyptian mythology is my favourite.

Heard odyssey is really good too

I think Origins was marginally better. Odyssey is huuuuuuge! As a result it gets a bit repetitive, and I have to admit to have gotten a bit bored with it."

I loved Odyssey storyline but you’re spot on with how repetitive it becomes.

Yeah I did hear that, me personally my favourite has to be black flag. Used to turn the tv up and just listen the shantys and waves. "

I agree with this, the scale of Odyssey was vast and repetitive, I found the save with Valhalla! I actually enjoyed Mirage as a scaled back offering with a nod to AC1

Come out from behind your rocks, monitors and graphics novels - make yourself known.

And less of this fake streaming video games using auto-aim on shooters to look cool. We can tell!"

Yes your decry of "fake gamer girls" will bring them all out!

A girl nerd is my dream tbh. I love gaming, comic books, movies, collecting movie replicas, lego etc. You would be surprised how many girls actually love all that
