A question for experienced hiker's

We started last year thus far our walks have been no longer than ten miles but plan to extend that as the year progresses.

But the biggest issue thus far has been sweatback from rucksack, there's so many different systems out there.

Any recommendations for the best reasonably priced rucksack with decent airflow to prevent gross sweaty back?

Lowe Alpine “air zone” packs are pretty good. There’s a rigid spine in the bag, coupled with a gap before the mesh net that sits on your back.

I’ve found them pretty good and have had the same pack for best part of 15 years now.

Ideally you want to go and try it on and get a proper feel for it also it’s something that you want to spend a bit extra on quality does come at a price . It’s very difficult to recommend a good backpack because what perfect for me might not be any good for you

Get one that has a mesh frame that lifts the bag part away from your skin -it will be referred to as an air flow type thing

I think osprey have it, but $$$ ...you can get cheaper brands -decathlon have one by Deuter.

Lol this!

But joking asside, all the above is good advice, I too have a Lowe Alpine air zone type which lifts the body of the bag away from your back. But, all backs are different and what suits one may not be comfortable for another. Make sure you try on in a shop with weight in the bag (reputable stores will have weights available for this purpose). I personally like a well-padded hip belt so I can take most of the weight on my hips, the shoulder and chest straps just stabilise the load.

I’ve had a Lowe Alpine in the past and hubby had an Osprey. The Gregory packs are also good for an airflow system. We’ve since moved to using Atom Packs which have no airflow system but cut our pack weight by more than half. I’ll take a sweaty back over a 2kg pack any day of the week especially for multi day trips!
