Kitchen.

How’s your kitchen?

Are you happy with it?

Did you choose it yourself?

Any recommendations?

Howdens seem to be a popular choice for the savvy kitchen buyer.

I’m in a rented house and I hate my kitchen.

It’s big enough but not enough storage space.

I’ve got an old book shelf in there now that i use for extra storage

I designed the kitchen and fitted it in the last renovation and it was bang on. Also Howdens.

PS... don't go down the 'Island' route... they are space hoggers and difficult to design around.

More good feedback and sound advice, thank you.

Yeah, we were toying with islands and then started laying it out using bits of furniture in our space which proved it to be rather unpractical.

Mine is quite small, but I chose it and like as it was just meant to be me living there….. I have a much larger dining room which is more important. I don’t need to walk around loads when I’m cooking. I just need everything within reach

Solid wood units & floor , I put a couple of full length oak shelves down it with loads of hooks underneath to hold pans so it’s actually quite practical even though it’s tiny.

I have a big ceramic sink in the garage that needs fitting this year and I’m gonna sand and re-oil the wood.

Don't have space for a big fridge freezer but I have a chest freezer in the garage, a beer fridge and a small food fridge. As well as a pantry.

I cook a lot often for lots of people and it works fine for me

Our kitchen was installed by the previous owner. It's Howdens

It really could do with accessible features like reduced height counter area and adjustable height hob etc. But that's wayyyyyyy to expensive and should save up for a wet room first.

Had mine done last year

Had a decent size dining room and a tiny kitchen

Now have a decent size kitchen with a good sized utility

Knowing when to stop is important

I didn't and ended up at just shy of 40k

That did include a damp proof course, a new staircase, decorating to downstairs and the first floor upstairs, new stair carpets, new flooring throughout the whole downstairs and new furniture in the living room though

As I said, knowing where to stop is important

My kitchen is in desperate need, but it's on a list of projects and I don't have many guests, so it's not at the top yet.

Worktop space is certainly at a premium, so I know I'd need to extend that. However, I might just take a look at Howdens when the time comes.

Hi H&S. I love my kitchen and designed it myself after getting wren and Howdens to design something for me.

It's worth using them to steal some good ideas. When I had a quote from Howdens, I was shocked at how much they trued to have my pants down over the prices. My friend had the same units and I knew exactly what he had paid.

Others have mentioned don't go down the island route, but I love mine. I guess it depends on how much room you have to play with.

After some research, I found a place called DIYkitchens .com and they have a showroom up Doncaster way that's worth visiting. The units are really good quality and very reasonable.

Blyth

Think I might be the only one who'll give a nod to Wren's. We had ours designed and fitted by them nearly 11 years ago and it still looks modern and new. I think a lot depends on having a really good fitter, ours was excellent.

However, when it comes to our next kitchen I'll probably do it myself ti save money. Didn't have the time to do it myself last time. Been some good tips on this thread regarding suppliers.

Yes very important! Heated countertops would be a good idea, keep your supper warm

"Get a quooker tap.

This is something we’re investigating, seems like a great investment especially for the amount of tea I drink."

You won't regret it.

"Hi H&S.

I should add that units all come pre made and all you have to do is pop the feet on.

Thank you Willy, we checked it out and the savings are fantastic.

Great advice."

You're welcome, Samuel

I put an IKEA kitchen in to one of my properties. Seems perfectly fine for a rental property and the quality isn't probably up to Howdens, it's not far off it for half the price!

"I've a Howdens kitchen, well made and does everything I need and half the price of a Wren .

That's good to know, I've just had a quote from Wren...

Do Howdens install too?

J

They don’t install as I understand but they will recommend an installer if you don’t have one."

Thanks, trip to Howdens later I think.
