No, it’s not going to be an interesting thread with stories about how many times people have banged room service because they interrupted a wank.

As a society, why do we demand our rooms be cleaned every day in hotels? I’m regularly in a hotel for the week and I don’t see why it needs to be cleaned more than my home. I change my sheets and towels once a week at home and that feels perfectly acceptable to me. Surely we’re being spoiled unnecessarily?

Maybe empty the bin and resupply the teabags.

I don't know about now but previously your room charge covered daily cleaning, linen and towel change.

I like to have the bed made, the bins emptied and the hospitality tray refreshed as a minimum and linen and towels changed mid week if we're staying that long.

I am with you. And my jammies neatly folded over the pillow. I am not bothered about the swans at the end of the bed though except perhaps on the first day

We stayed somewhere last year and the towel art one day was really creepy. It was in the shape of a small child sitting on top of one of the cupboards

Quite a few hotels now have that thing to hang on the door if you are happy to skip a housekeeping visit. I have stayed in hotels in France and NL where they incentivise by knocking euros off the room rate for not having services like getting the towels changed daily. More hotels should do this

It’s the principle.

I’m shelling out my hard earned money and there’s no discount for staying more than one night so I expect my room cleaned and made up like it’s a new rental.

I regularly book one night at a time when staying away for the week just to be certain I’ll have a fresh clean room.

If hotels offered discounts for not servicing rooms I’d see things differently.

I work in hospitality, and an increasing number of places are moving away from this, and offering guests the choice. Some eco-friendly places explicitly make it part of their offering - ie you can reduce your room rate if you opt out of daily cleaning. Each to their own, (and obviously different if you're traveling as a family etc) but daily cleaning is insanely wasteful in terms of resources - vans ferrying towels to and from an industrial laundrette on the other side of town when they've been used once etc. On another level, if I'm going away for a few days on my own to chill out, I don't really want staff wandering in and out of my room. Would rather just relax and have the place to myself, then let them clean when I go.

And a side note, hotel cleaning is a *hard* job: insanely quick turnarounds on rooms, pretty bad money and physically gruelling. Good karma: put your used towels in one pile in the bath, bag your rubbish up and (if you can) leave them a cash tip and a thank you note when you go.

Are you comparing your cleanliness to others? I know some people with OCD who maintain extremely clean and tidy environments like spotless walls with no pictures, everything in the cupboards arranged a specific way, and waking up early every morning to sweep the floors type.

I never get my room serviced every day. I'll leave any rubbish bagged up outside the room door before housekeeping start, and like clean towels every 3-4 days.

If I'm staying over 5 days, it is nice to have some clean sheets.

Agreed and I don't expect it and would tell them not to bother I'm a clean person anyway so it would be wasted effort .

I've never banged a cleaner because they walked in on me mid wank. One did walk in on me and an ex indulging in an in room hot tub shagathon in Mexico once though. 🤷‍♂️

But no. Every other day is fine with me. The restock of coffee is the most important bit. That needs to be daily, if not twice a day.

The type and extent of cleaning is optional and I organise what I'd like with the hotel. You can dry your towels for reuse and stock up on hot drinks stuff. Still leaving a tip for overworked housekeeping staff, is a good thing to do

I asked a couple of years ago, who'd use a home equivalent of room service at home, if your street had it and quite a lot said they'd appreciate someone making the bed, freshening things up etc. Homes should come with housekeeping service including, like hotels

What I’m saying is that, from the customer’s perspective, review, and "safety" [nosiness/inspect policy] hotels will lean towards being overly clean than the opposite. They want to ensure nothing illegal is happening in the room, so room service acts as a cover for inspections.
