"I hate how much cartridges cost. Will be going for one of those new type catridge less ones if anyone has a recommendation that does not cost the earth" Printers are the cats of the tech world. They're arseholes. Re the cartridge cost? Just go for an HP one and get the ink subscription. Way cheaper.

"Had a Brother laser monochrome printer for many years and still going strong." Yes, Brother Lasers are excellent, I can’t remember how many awful inkjets I got through. Even works with cheapo toner cartridges. I’ve had this one for 6 years now.

"I have a HP printer and subscribe to the ink replacement programme. Works out much cheaper for me as I don’t need to print much stuff so go for the cheapest one at about £1.60pm. The printer was about £60 but was reduced in the sale and I’ve had it about 3-4 years now. " Me too. Still have problems with it connecting though.

I do too sometimes but find it easy enough to connect again through my phone. You might be best contacting customer services, they are pretty good at sorting problems.
