For a casual hook up distance is not too much of an issue.. as more than a one off hook up I think it’d become an issue, despite amazing chemistry… the usual schedule conflicts etc and then add in travel time just makes it more than it’s worth

Travelling for socials is worth it if you know others in the area already- so you can combine the social with hanging out with friends or other connections. And it means that it’s simply a social for you.

When you have a connection with someone it's important to maintain that with regular contact. When that's not possible due to distance or opportunity then I think the connection is going to fade eventually

It's a barrier I have to overcome because for whatever reason there just aren't huge numbers of people I vibe with where I live. If I want to see more than say two of my friends in a weekend, I have to drive 80 miles to Bristol.

If I'm using dating apps like Tinder etc, even if I set my radius relatively close (50 miles) it's like tumble round here, 99 percent of my matches are in Cardiff, Swansea, Newport etc - 50 miles as the crow flies, 150+ by car.

So yeah I am prepared to travel but by the same token, all my Welsh hotties have multiple options that don't have to drive two hours for a coffee and a vibe check/first date/multiple dates. So yeah, it's really one-sided. And I can't move elsewhere at the moment because the only reason I still live in Devon is because I have a dependent elderly parent who can't manage without me nearby. Not gonna lie it isn't how I saw this period of my life playing out at all.

So consider this an impassioned plea to those who are in contact with people that are a bit of a distance away to please give us a chance! 🙏

I had a rule of thumb of settling for 100 mile radius from Woking.

That's changed though after being let down countless of times. Nothing worse than getting ready, driving 90 mins to a meeting point only for the people you've been talking to fail to turn up and ghost you. There are too many fucking arseholes on this site.

So due to my experiences, I drive no further than 40 miles.

So yes,it is an issue for me

For new people on fab it's unlikely, if they want to travel to me I'd consider it.

If it's spontaneous meets then it obviously will be a barrier but if all parties are looking for a bit more of a connection/fwb etc with a bit planning I personally wouldn't find it an issue. Conceptually it isn't an issue for me. But when you turn to practical realities, it is. I don't have many available evenings (c. 5 a month), so I don't have time (nor can I afford) to be travelling long distances. If I met someone to see repeatedly, and they always travelled to me, I think I'd probably feel uncomfortable about requiring that of them.

So overall yeah, it's an issue - because of my circumstances.

Distance is a very real barrier for one off / 1st meets

I tend to allow 90 min travel maximum and even that is a huge if ..

If I have met them before daycare club somewhere / had lots of video chats so know real , get along ish Then I’d be ok travelling around .

Otherwise I try keep within 45 min usually for randoms

I don't drive but I've never let distance get in the way of a meet if someone is ok with letting me stay over I'm more than happy to travel

Distance itself isn't so much a barrier but it is harder to meet those that involve a lot of travel just because of the amount of time it takes. Having said that, I'm most excited about those that involve that level of planning as the connection for me is normally stronger as you're both putting in extra effort to see each other, and you tend to make the most of the time spent together. Sometimes though, I just like a spontaneous quick drink or more. That also makes me smile.

It can be, yes, because of practical considerations.

I say on my profile I'm only looking for those on the island of Ireland, and even at that it would be difficult for me to meet those at either extreme.

My working hours are spread throughout the week including weekends and I work a few late nights. I also have other commitments 3 times a week, so I don't have the available time to travel long distances, and I definitely don't have enough disposable income to jump on a plane at whim to meet someone in GB.

I wouldn't be comfortable with someone else making the journey either for a one off social...I'd feel like there was an expectation that we'd hit it off in person
