SAD lamps

Can anyone recommend a good one? The lack of light is absolutely doing me in and going outside in this weather is a total no-no. My one wheelchair cushion takes an age to dry out and I don't want to sit in the wet all day.

It feels like 84 years since I saw actual light. It was actually Friday, but feel like forever now.

Can't recommend one, but i had a sad lamp for Xmas. I've used it everyday so far and feel my mood has lifted bit.

I've always hated winter time when it's grey or nearly dark during the day.

Like the sunny days but they seem rare.

I hope when you get yours you feel better.

Have you considered changing your light bulbs to daylight types that provide a better and brighter light? they cost the same as the warm white bulbs.

I've been looking at light bulbs today. All our lights in the house are spotlights (from when we bought it) and so need to find suitable spotlight ones.

I've just come back from two weeks in the sun.

There is no sun here, there hasn't been a solitary ray to speak of since we returned.

I am disabled, a wheelchair user and to outdoors in wet weather means my chair becoming soaking wet and totally unsuitable to be sat in further. I only have one chair and one cushion. It cost me £4500.

I take Vitamin D at high doses because one aspect of my disability is that I cannot absorb it from food well and I have a condition that means I lose fat soluble vitamins in excessive amounts from my bowel.

Are you happy now?

Hi Mrs KC,

I think the jury is still out on the efficacy of SAD lamps.

However, I have had a wake up lamp for about 10 years and it really makes a difference in winter. The one I have is a Philips, which is the original one and still going strong.

I haven’t got a SAD lamp but I’ve got a lumie sunrise/sunset lamp and I found that helped a lot with my fatigue during the covid years and when I did night shifts. If you can get hold of one cheaply that may help a little whilst you decide on the SAD lamp of choice. Maybe possibly perhaps. Sorry I can’t be of help with the actual question! I’ve often considered getting one so do report back your findings as I’d be interested to know what you decide.
